WPLK 800AM Ratings

Does anyone know why WPLK 800AM out of Palatka does not appear in Jacksonville ratings any longer? Considering the same satellite format down in Sebring pulls very high ratings and the demographocs are very similar, especially along the coast.

I cannot say I've ever seen it show up. Didn't know it made it into the area.

Its been a few years since they showed up on ratings, but they use to. WPLK can be heard loud and clear from Jax beach down to Ormond beach and fringe in Daytona.

#1) WPLK's daytime signal in Duval County/Jacksonville is marginal. AM signal propogation all through Florida is horrible because of the sandy soil. And WPLK's night signal is completely inaudible in the city. The first rule of ratings-getting is "They gotta be able to hear it."

#2) Sebring's population is much older than Jacksonville's, so "Music of Your Death" is pop-pop-popular stuff down there in Senior Villas, but not so much in Jax.

#3) Jacksonville has 5 times as many radio stations as Sebring, so EVERY station has to fight tooth & nail for ratings, comparatively.

Thats funny, I heard it loud and clear driving down A1A back in November, from Jax beach to Ormond Beach. Also, Saw alot of "seasoned citizens" who I assume love this genre of music just like the those "geezers down in Sebring.

Most of metro Jacksonville's 1.2 million citizens don't live at the beach; they live inland where AM reception sucks. That's not to say that WPLK wouldn't generate some solid 60+ numbers if they moved the stick 45 miles north. It could pull a one or a two share.

About 28 percent of metro Jacksonville's population is 50+, while about 49 percent of metro Sebring's population is 50+. Not quite double, but you get the drift...

::) Who are you Famous 56 Guy.. Famous 56 is only WFIL and I knew em all in 1970.. You one of 'em!
