WPLR gets an HD2

For the first time, WPLR New Haven is using HD for something other than its main signal. It's now carrying the same "Big D" oldies stream that WDRC-FM Hartford has been running on its HD2 since its Buckley days. Not huge news, but I guess there's a chance Connoisseur may have more plans for HD after years of virtually ignoring it, as Cox did before Connoisseur acquired WPLR.

They have been running a translator from west rock in New Haven at 102.3 for a few weeks. Right now it has been simulcasting WPLR. They might be ready to flip it to HD2

That would make sense, seeing as how a translator of WPLR is hardly needed anywhere in New Haven. I wonder if a similar translator is planned for the Hartford area. Of course, the big question is whether there's a format tweak or out-and-out flip on the HD2 when it starts getting fed to the translator. I'm pretty sure all the music and liners have been on that Big D hard drive since well before DRC-FM was sold to Connoisseur. Maybe Connoisseur will update it a little and bring the '70s and early '80s into play while de-emphasizing or dropping the '50s, which is now of interest mainly to people in their 70s and 80s.

I been listening to the oldies simulcast of WDRC-FM-HD2 and WPLR-HD2 on my car radio. On PLR-HD2, it sounds like they are using low-quality internet stream of WDRC-FM-HD2.
