WPLR tweakage

I have noticed that they are adding more 90'-current rock to their playlist. Sounds amazing, it's a major difference from their "stale classic rock" format from before. Even their imaging has gotten edgier as compared to the older "voice guy with nothing under it" imaging. Hi five to the PD ;D

X

Agreed.

They're probably trying to sound more like I-95, which, in my opinion & the opinions of others who have posted about this subject, has more variety.

Their long-time imaging guy, Rick Allison, who has done Local Bands for years, is the voice of CNN, Fox & other national accounts.

Their new imaging is edgier, but it sounds cheap & amateur.

What happened to long-time weekenders Chris Cody & Glenn w/2 N's, & where are Phil Antonelli, Magilla & Andrew Krause from?

I'm not sure what happened to Cody and Glenn with 2 n's, Phil I think is the old producer from Chaz and AJ. I think Phil is also on 95.9 the fox(at least it sounds like him) and I would have to think that PLR just doesn't care who is on the air anymore. I have not heard Magilla and I have no idea who Andrew is. Phil is actually as painful to listen to on air as I have ever heard, every other word is umm umm umm.

Glenn performs with a Cover Band. I forgot what the name of the band is. Last month the band he performs with performed at Illusions in Wolcott, which is where I work. When my boss printed up the flyers to promote the band she specifically mentioned Glenn with 2 N's formerly of WPLR.

You work at Illusions? Next time the Groove Junkies perform there, say hi to my daughter, Trish.

Yep. I work in the DJ Booth with their staff DJ Walter. I'm his helper and I also do promotional things form them as well i.e. hanging up ads different places, contacting newspapers, etc. I was briefly their new Thursday Night DJ, but issues with my real job (among other things) caused me to give that up.

The Groove Junkies - Great Band. :)

Just headed over to their website to check out the "Last Songs Played". Not impressed.

Noticed a few more hair bands, some deeper GNR and Ozzy tracks, a few songs that can be heard on AC stations (Creed, Green Day, 3 Doors Down), and the safest, mellowest Metallica songs that can be heard on I-95 and 'RXP and a little bit less of the older and lighter classic rock.

The song repetition is absolutely painful- for example, "Fat Bottomed Girls" aired this morning between 12 and 4 am and in the 4 pm hour yesterday. That's not even 12 hours in between when it was played, ridiculous.

Sounds more like a tweaking of the playlist, which is always tight at Cox stations, rather than a broadening of it, then.

Classic rock is still a lucrative format, but the demographics aren't getting any younger. It's a balancing act between keeping enough classic rock and adding the relatively new rock so as not to alienate the base. At the same time you want to go heavy on acts that stand the test of time better with younger, mostly male adults (Aerosmith, Led Zeppelin, Stones, etc.) while slipping in familiar stuff from the nineties and losing the "classic" label.

Most people listening at 4pm aren't likely to tune in after midnight, but are more prone to daily habits. It's much more deadly to repeat a song in the same hour a day later than to replay it 8 hours later. Many stations recycle their midday music into the following overnight - that's nothing new.

Hey Triple Threat

You hit the nail on the head when you said "PLR doesn't care who is on the air anymore".

That's why they sound like they do.

Except for Wiggy Wigmaster.

He's an indescribable Radio Host/Personality.

Nor do they care who they send away (e.g. Pam Landry).

If you polled people and asked them to name a WPLR jock off the top of their head, 9 times out of 10, it'll likely be Landry.

I would think 10 out of 10 would say Chaz and AJ and 9 out of 10 would say Mike Lapatino.

Pam has been gone over two years. And was replaced with Wiggy - another heritage PLR guy. They didn't put someone from out of market on or have a weekender voice track it.

That station is different now. Focused music, good promotions, good sweepers. I'd say the audience has moved on from the days of Pam Landry.

I used to work there. I know what a real mess that place is.

Glenn with two N's and Chris Cody are gone.
Phil got booted from morning show producer to FT jock at the Fox and Saturday nights on PLR.
Andrew is an intern turned Saturday night jock turned Saturday morning.
Lappy, Wiggy and Prodoti are the best people there.

Eagan is a devastation to that building.

Hey SpeakerBox & SoNo,

"Lappy, Wiggy & Prodoti are the best ones there".

Antonelli, Prodoti & Lapatino sounds like an Italian law firm.

Prodoti = Boring.

Lapatino says "ah" in between every sentence.

Who is Eagan?

From what I gather, Glenn with two Ns left on his own, as did Chris Cody. I think Chris Cody moved away to Florida? I don't see how people deciding to move on is management's fault.

As for Phil getting "booted" from the morning show, moving from morning show producer to full time on air on PLR and 95.9 sounds like a promotion to me. I don't see how going from producer to being on air with your own shifts is a bad thing.

I am more curious to Know why the FOX/PLR have not become the same station yet. I am glad they hate not especially in the sense of staffing. As for Me with my rock at XCI, my time has to become more limited There since I am a volunteer. I have taken an on weekend air shift in a very small Market up North near Canada to get more on air experience and since there is nothing available down here for the commercial world. Luckily, I have been asked to continue my show at WXCI by other staffers with my type of music in the automation system for Firdays I am away. :)
