WPLX sold by EMF

I found out today that EMF is selling WPLX back to the previous owner Pollock Broadcasting, along with their translator on 96.7. I figured EMF would eventually sell, but the question was when and to who. Has WPLX moved to 1180 yet? Also, any guesses on the format, assuming they don't continue to carry K-LOVE?

I take it that they will try to use 96.7 to rebroadcast 1170/1180. Is it possible that the ownership and possible format change could take place at the same time they switch to 1180?

Will there be any CCM / in the AC or CHR sense, left in Memphis???

K-Love still has signals at 94.7 and 94.9. So, they'll still be heard in Memphis. They'd been trying to sell WPLX for quite some time. It is, however, kind of ironic that the station's old owner is buying it back.

eventually the 94.7 signal will move out of the area and to the north.
94.9 will move to the 107.5 tower in the eastern part of cordova giving K-Love some usable signal in the city for the first time.

Along with that plans are to move 94.9 in Ripley, TN to Hayti, MO and Air 1 on 91.5 in Blytheville, AR to the MO bootheel (I can't remember the town off the top of my head.) as well. Pollock also owned KSUD AM 730 in West Memphis, which carried CCM until EMF sold it and it became ESPN Radio. I think EMF ended up with 730 and 1170 as part of the deal to get 94.7.

That sounds about right. Part of the agreement to move WPLX to 1180 involves it changing its COL to Turrell to replace the loss of service from KKLV. You're right about Pollack owning 730 and 1170 and selling them along with the former KSUD-FM to EMF. I believe that happened in either 2000 or '01.

I think it was late 2001. WPLX got switched to simulcast shortly thereafter and KSUD's switch was flipped on March 1, 2003.

Ya know, the last few posts on this thread are the exact reason I left the business…when they started swapping stations like crazy and playing Monopoly with my career.
