WPOI

Does anybody know what they are doing? I like the music , but they seem to be evolving into what? They have voices 18 hours a day which is more than WDUV or WXGL. They seem to give away big bucks. The 12+ makes them at the bottom of major FM's. Is there a plan? I'm just curious because it would seem that WXGL has the stronger personalities, but there are only 2. Thanks.

A friend of mine won a trip to the tradewinds on St Pete beach for 2 nights yesterday. I guess giving away $$$ and things will increase their listener base?

I know Djs will disagree with me, but I dont think Dj's personalitys make a station, though they can hurt it if they are idiots. I think a station makes it with its "MUSIC PLAYLIST". Morning drive or a Afternoon drive is different cause if you have a great DJ thats funny and interesting (aka Bubba and Cowhead) then people will prefer to hear them outside of music, but if they are ok or idiots,,forget it, music playlist rules.... Outside of that... the normal Dj, just tell us what song that was/is,weather,traffic and get to the next song.! Don't get me wrong, there are great Djs out there, Big Rig on 98 for 1.

So I guess your question is, what's The Point's point? :D

Wikipedia lists them as "Adult Hits". Where is "BOB"?

Scott, The one thing that really does it for me is when I'm driving home late at night and I hear a live & local DJ break in between songs. This is such a comforting and nostalgic thing for me, it's something that a simple liner just can't simulate. I think where our local DJ's (local DJ's??? what a concept) are failing is, they feel they have to say something "clever" each time they crack the mic, and they always fall on their face. For the love of God, don't banter about American Idol or the latest craze, we're listening to the radio as an escape from that garbage!

As a side note, there was a time that I probably wouldn't admit it, but the only time I flip over to the FM side anymore is to listen to USF or MNF... even with their slant, 88.5 is doing REAL radio. I think that listening to the Sunday Evening Jazz Clinic should be required curriculum for any on air talent. The way that dude carries himself is priceless!

Regarding WPOI, if people aren't listening for the voice talent... then why are they listening at all? I don't know about you guys, but I get really tired of hearing the same 100 (am I being generous?) songs every day. The air talent is really the only thing that they have to break up the monotony, considering that the average listener "doesn't want a diverse playlist".

What? WOW, You dont seriously wait for the DJ to give you the 1 liner do ya? and American Idol and huh? You talking about the DJ?

There are talent in Djs here in Tampa,I said that, especially Bubba,Cowhead,BigRig,Schmitt and a few others. The radio stations I listen to is cause of the music, and most people listen to radio for music unless they have a great show with great Djs to run it and make "THE SHOW".

Seems I read that WQYK is live 24/7. I think WMNF may be, except nobody gets paid. It is a labor of love ( of radio and being there). WRBQ still sounds the most like old time radio with strong personalities , jingles, and familiar music. I would agree that personality does make difference

Yeah, I really like that Schmitt guy, he's very talent.

I'll admit thyat unless the guy/gal is REALLY GOOD: I only care about DJs in rush hour mornings and afternoons. The rest of the time I just want a jukebox.
