WPOP Informal 30 Year Reunion

June 30th marks 30 years since the music died on WPOP in Hartford. On that day back in 1975, the station switched from Top-40 to All-News with the NBC News and Information Network.

A few of us are using that as an excuse to get together for an informal reunion.

Join us if you've ever worked at WPOP in any capacity or were involved with the station as a advertiser or a rep... or even if you were a competitor on WDRC or some other Hartford Station. Hell, even you just listened to the station back in those days, plan on joining us for a few drinks at the Pumphouse Grille in Bushnell Park in Hartford around 6:30 - 7:00pm on Saturday, June 25th.

> Wish I could make it but no dice. A million years ago in the mid-60's, I used to ride my bike from my New Britain home to the WPOP transmitter where Wayne Mulligan used to babysit the transmitter and do other stuff. Wayne put up with me for a year or so and let me fool around with the emergency studiio POP had down at the site. He was a big influence on me and I'm in broadcasting to this day. Why? Havn't got a clue. Anyway, POP had some amazing jingles and I remember the rivalery between POP and DRC. If you put WPOP in a search engine, you'll find a few sites where you can listen to the old jingles, see memorabilia and even check out some airchecks. I recently found a 60 second promo of Mad Daddy aka Pete Myers, who used to send his tracks in from the old WINS in NYC. Quality is not great but its fantastic to listen to.
