WPRI Investigative Reporter Jack White Dead

The Providence Journal is reporting that WPRI-TV 12 and WNAC-TV 64 's Chief Ivestigative Reporter Jack White of Eyewitness News Providence died this morning at age 63. Story on www.projo.com

Jack White was a first class, top notch human being. Jack cared for his family, co-workers, and the community very much. Jack was a very fair in his news reporting. He loved the Red Sox! I always found Jack and I discussing baseball and other sports...most recently about my drives to Cape Cod to take in Cape Cod League baseball games. Jack told me about his many excursions to Cape Cod League ball games! I loved talking with Jack and working with him. Everywhere I go while "out in the field" for Channel 12, many people would always ask me "How's Jack White doing?" Jack was a respected journalist and human being. Everyone at WPRI loves Jack very much and will miss him dearly.

I first heard of the News on WPRO Radios Noon Broadcast. At first when they mentioned the passing of a major News presence in Rhode Island, I instantly thought it was Doug White because of his current battle with Cancer. However I was still saddened to hear that it was Jack White. He was a well respected individual and obviously well liked by his colleagues and viewers alike. My thoughts are with all those who were close to Jack. He will be greatly missed.

Jack White was a tremendous reporter. More importantly, he was a kind and good man.

May he rest in peace.

Jack White was probably one of the top investigative reporters working in local television news anywhere in the country. His work was of high enough quality that he easily could have become a successful investigative correspondent for a national network. While WPRI-12 benefitted from having him there for as long as he was, the networks missed out on hiring a investigative reporter as good as any in the country, local or network.

Here in New England, only Joe Bergantino of WBZ-4 Boston and Jim Tericani of WJAR-10 Providence are in the same class that Jack was in.

This is a link to a statement from WPRI-12 general manager Jay Howell that has been posted on the station's website.
