WPRI Providence not HD on COX CABLE

I noticed that WPRI doesn't have an HD picture on COX CABLE. It looks like they have an HD channel. But when I tune into it I only get a Standard picture. I disconnected the COX CABLE and was then able to receive WPRI's digital signal over the air though. So I know that WPRI has one. So what's going on with COX Cable and WPRI. Does anybody know about a problem?

If it is not a technical issue, then it's this: Lin TV has issues with retransmission and consent. Trust me I know I work at Lin's KRQE in Albuquerque, Lin has been in negotiations for almost two years now with Comcast wanting KRQE's HD signal, but Lin is wanting the cable companies pony up compensation for carrying the HD signals. Thus no HD signal on cable. It's a lose-lose situation in my book, and Comcast has tried to negotiate with us directly but the top brass at Lin didn't permit it.

LIN has retrans all set for WPRI/WNAC & COX.
This is a technical issue with COX.
It will be looked into.

WPRI is indeed in true HD on COX.
Same with WNAC.

Nope. Not here. WPRI Channel RF120-311. I pulled up the info being broadcast and it says 480 SD. SD stands for Standard definition. Trust me. This is awful. WLNE is in HD and so is WJAR. I even get CW 28 in HD and I believe FOX as well. All those stations look fantastic. I've never seen better quality. However my WPRI signal over Cox is definitely not digital. It looks like crap. I've got it on Letterman right now. It's not good.

Maybe it's a LIN Broadcating thing? WTNH-DT (ABC) of New Haven never looks as sharp as WFSB-DT (CBS), WVIT-DT (NBC) or WTIC-DT (FOX) here on Comcast in New Britain, or on antenna for that matter. :(

My Time Warner system here in Rochester is carrying all the SD channels digitally, as well as the HD feeds (it does wonders to clean up the on-channel ingress problem I have less than a mile from the transmitters, but that's another story.) I believe the Comcast Boston systems, at least in the vicinity of the 128 towers, do the same thing.

Is it possible that what you're seeing on RF 120-311 is an SD feed, and that the WPRI HD feed is on a different RF channel? I don't know how Cox arranges things on its systems.

Well if there is an HD digital feed of WPRI on a different frequency, my TV sure isn't picking it up. I will do some more channel scans and see if a miracle happens.

************** PROBLEM FIXED ******************

Scott you were right. I was originally picking up The SD Channel digitally. I just did a channel rescan and now I'm picking up the actual HD signal of WPRI on 104-19. Thanks for everybodys help. I'm brand new to HDTV and I'm still getting used to all of this. Sometimes certain channels show up when you scan and other times they don't. I have no clue why. But at least that is one problem taken care of. Now why I can't pick up any HD channels from Boston via my outdoor antenna is a totally different issue. I just think the tuner inside my new TV sucks. It doesn't seem sensitive at all.

Not just cable -- DirecTV and Dish Network too

DirecTV offers ABC and NBC in HD with Providence locals. Dish Network doesn't yet carry HD locals for Providence.

LIN owns WPRI-12 and operates Fox Providence, which is why CBS and Fox are not in HD in Rhode Island.

Genius is correct -- LIN is holding out for big bucks and not just from the cable companies.
