WPRI-TV History Footnote - 10 Years Ago

Not sure of the date, but it was sometime in early 2001 that WPRI-TV was sold by Clear Channel after less than five years of ownership; they did so as a condition to purchase more radio stations in the Providence market.

Here's how WPRI looked circa 1999 under Clear Channel ownership:

How ironic is it that there is the possibility of another radio company namesake (Citadel) owning a Providence TV station (WLNE) in the near future?

As its been posted numerous times here and in the Pro jo. It is NOT the same CITADEL that owns radio stations in Providence. It is a completly different company.
