WPRI'S 5:30PM News

I've noticed that Walt Buteau went from anchoring at 5:30pm to reporting. Leaving Erin Kennedy to anchor solo.
Now for the past week or so. Mike Montecalvo has been anchoring the 5:30pm show.And Erin Kennedy is now gone. He also handles the morning show & noon as well. Now today (Friday 6-15) he is anchoring 5pm,6pm, 10pm(Fox) & more than likely 11pm. As Steve & Karen were probably off due to the celebrity golf tournament held today at Triggs Golf Course in Providence.

So what is going on with the 5:30pm slot? That their morning anchor has to fill the slot on a regular basis?
Are they that short staffed??? Or cutting back $$$. They just hired Elizabeth Hopkins for weekends.
I thought Danielle North was handling weekends? So who knows???
 
To be honest, WPRI is getting pretty bad, when they send a reporter to NJ to cover Cianci being released and miss him, then act like they've got News Chopper 12 scouring the highway routes to Boston to find his car, people stop caring and switch to 6 or 10.

Anyone else notice in the FOX/WPRI promo for their mobile weather SUV, there is a shot of the vehicle on 95 North, and in the back ground is the CHANNEL 10 weather billboard next to the salt pile, before exit 20!!

With all of the rumors surrounding the Boston news stations, it is easy for the Providence stations to get lost in the shuffle. Besides the wpri 5:30 pm newscast changes, which no one seemed to answer, wjar has also made a change. Gary Ley is off the noon newscast and back in at 11 pm. Also, what is going on with wjar? They have had positions for weekend weather, weekend anchor, and ga reporter open for months. Will they ever fill those spots?

One other note, how good is Melissa Mahan on ABC 6. Not sure when April O'Dell is returning, but Melissa is a star in the making. No doubt in my mind she will be joining Dylan Dreyer and Kathryn Tappen in Boston very soon. Too bad that ABC 6 can't highlight her talent.
 
Steve 6, Gary Ley has been with WJAR since the early 80's (1984 I think). Technically his is their "Chief Meteorologist"
and should be on at 5pm,6pm, & 11pm. You always want to be consistant with viewers. And not play musical weather people. Look at WPRI. They have no trouble promoting Tony Petrarca as "Chief Meteorologist". Now they are running
promos saying "Tony Has Been Here, keeping you informed". Thatis the sorta stuff, the average viewer could latch onto.And hopefully remember.

So Mark Zinni & Michelle Muscatello now have joined Pam Watts M-F on the morning show. And they have Sports Anchor Patrick Little anchoring Saturday mornings. Whats up with that????
