WPRI's Richard Lynch

I'm sure you will not recognize this name, but he was a huge part of the WPRI family. Richard Lynch (known to us at WPRI as "Dickie") passed away on August 18, after a 20-year battle with cancer. He was 52 years old.

Dickie joined WPRI in 1978...and most recently was Production Manager, Internship Coordinator, and Special Projects Coordinator. Dickie won a National Emmy award in 1996 for Technical Team Remote for the X-Games. He was honored in 2003 with a New England Emmy for Outstanding Program Elements in the Bristol 4th of July parade that year.

He is survived by his parents, his daughter, her mother, and his companion.

Sad to see another passing. 20 year battle with Cancer? That shocked me. Most people who get Cancer are lucky to live two or three years. Doug White lived one. If his cancer was in remission or gone then is it really a battle? I don't think anyone actually has a 20 year battle with Cancer. Am I wrong?

Cancer comes in many different forms. Some cancer is much less aggressive than others. In addition, the definition of "remission" doesn't necessarily mean "cancer-free". It can mean that it is just "dormant".
