DJ Mo - Quadman102 is absolutely correct. Take his advice and you will not go wrong. If programming is where your passion lies, develop your on-air programming skills as was recommended.
I started out in broadcasting in 1975 at the age of 14 with fewer advantages than you have right now, and I also had a different set of objectives than most people have who seek a career in broadcasting. My overall goal was to become a station owner, so I took advanatge of every opportunity available. If the opportunity was not immediately available, I created my own opportunities, starting out on-air, part-time with a small market rural 500 watt AM daytimer. From there I worked my way up to full-time on-air, eventually becoming program director at a bigger station. From there I became an account executive in order to learn sales, Arbitron and all that is associated with station advertising sales and marketing, working my way up to sales manager and eventual general manager. Now I buy and sell radio and television stations as a media broker, bringing media property buyer and seller together.
Perfect your own talents and skills and become very good at what you have a passion to do, and you will make it big somewhere doing what you love to do.
