WPRK

Google Earth shows that the current towers for WSRF disapeared in around 12/02 and the WRHC day site has been under water since sometime between '95 & '99.
BTW...They also show that the current tower for WPRK is right in the center of Genius Dr. but they are moving to a field by the library where they will be a few meters higher.

Actually, that's where the tower is right now.
WPRK is in the same building as the library, just in the basement.
Hence, the saying, "The Best In Basement Radio".
Had a great show today.
People called in my show telling me they went through withdrawal. ;D

FCC records say all.

WPRK was operating from the wrong coordinates. They shut down until they were able to get a CP to locate to the current site. They filed for the CP and an STA at the same time. However the CP was granted before the STA was, so the FCC dismissed the STA.

Hello. I have noticed that WPRK's signal is a little bit better here in Altamonte since they came back last Friday. Is it just me? I can hear them crystal clear with the antenna on the pl-390 where as before the stereo would drop out heer and there.

I don't hear much of a difference in signal coverage here in Apopka.
WPRK's transmitter log I report in says about the same numbers as usual last Friday.
Perhaps the slight change to the antenna has been done when we were out.

It would be nice to see WPRK operating at 100kw at 1,968 feet; However, WPRK cannot increase power nor height due to co-channel WMIE 91.5 Cocoa and WAPN 91.5 Holly Hill (Daytona). For this reason WPRK is locked-in at 1.3kw; however, if the Cocoa and Holly Hill stations, respectively, were to move to another frequency (assuming one is available), WPRK has a good chance to upgrade its technical facilities.

The only way WPRK could potentially increase power would be to buy out the other two stations. I hear that the last time someone approached WAPN about a buyout, their asking price was a million dollars. That was when then owner Gordon Lund was alive. I doubt the surviving family would be interested in selling for less. As for WMIE - it would be a shame for them to sell out, as they are the station that broadcasts live NASA feeds during launches. Although with the shuttle now defunct, I don't know how often they broadcast launches, or which launches they would broadcast.
