WPRO-AM'S HALLOWEEN SPECIAL

Holland,

Would you happened to have the audio from this great special that aired on Halloween in 1974? A good portion of the staff was involved in this project.
Which caused a slight uproar in the community. Thanks to confused listeners.

I thought that part of the FCC action was an order for the tapes to be destroyed. heh heh Thank you to whoever preserved them.

I am listening to it now and I am highly amused. It started out realistic enough. But it just started getting more insane as time went on. It ends up sounding like a bad episode of WKRP in Cinicinatti. People were so gullible back then. lol

Definitely glad this recording was saved. I'm a big believer in saving things on tape for archive purposes. This is a piece of history and it would have been a shame if nobody had kept a copy of it. I can definitely tell that this is being acted out though, but I'm not sure if that is because of the over the top announcing style of that time or if it has more to do with just plain bad acting and cheesy sound effects...lol. However maybe I'm being overly critical. If the year was 1974 and I heard this on the radio, I may have very well believed it. But in todays world I think a similar event would sound quite different on the radio.

I wonder how many people heard this on WPRO, and then turned on the TV and saw no coverage at all. That's the first indication of a hoax. lol.
