Wow!
That rivals what-they-do on CSI Miami.
Or Donald Pleasance in "Stalag 17," the counterfeiter-who-was-going-blind, but STILL fooled the Nazis with the fake credentials he whipped up.
Where were you when I was 18 and the drinking age was 21?

Holland-that was The Great Escape....one for the last of the truly GREAT ensemble cast movies-James Garner, Steve Mc Queen, Donald, James Coburn, Charles Bronson, Sir Richard Attenborough.......sigh! Do you think we'll be saying that same thing about High School Musical? I think not....

"that was The Great Escape..."

You're right!
I stand corrected.
Hey, at least I didn't mix him up with William Holden in "Bridge on The River Kwai."

The late, great Steve McQueen -- in-real-life a biker himself -- did his own stunt-riding in "The Great Escape."

And speaking-of-classic-Steve McQueen-movies-with-a-deft-counterfeiter: How about him and Dustin Hoffman in "Papillon?"

And speaking-of-Steve McQueen: Remember Kevin Costner as "The Bodyguard," with Whitney Houston (more-or-less playing-herself)?
Remember than goofy haircut Costner had?

True story: Costner's coif was an homage to McQueen.
"The Bodyguard" project had kicked-around Hollywood SO long that McQueen was originally cast.

Holland,

I know we've skated around this issue a while; but what is CC thinking of the "other cluster" seeing as they have far larger markets to worry about firsthand, is the status quo going to continue to be ok for them as Cat Country is leading the market, Lite not too far behind and HJY and the B doing ok; but not setting the world on fire (can't even bring myself to mention HJJ or SNE as I don't know what is going on at either frequency right now....). In your past dealings with them (either being brought in by CC or going against CC) does this seem out of character for them?

I stand corrected.
Hey, at least I didn't mix him up with William Holden in "Bridge on The River Kwai."

But you did describe Alec Guiness as the captor in River Kwai, when he was actually the captive.

Regards,
TSB

At the BEGINNING of the movie? Or the END?

Oh I COULD say that, by-the-time-the-psychological-war-was-won, Sessue Hayakawa's character was the real captor, held hostage by construction work Guiness & Co. were forging-ahead-with against-all-odds.

Remember the words of "World's Greatest Negotiator" Herb Cohen: The most important piece of information in ANY negotiation is...the other party's deadline.

But you're right!
Correction forthcoming.
And to thank you for this good catch, a gift, here, later today.
Tonight at the latest.

PS: I am DANG-near-ready-to rescind my Best Bond choice too, after seeing "Casino Royale." I join others who applaud last Bond (arguably the first, given its prequel timeline) as possibly the best Bond.

PPS: Is Bourne the new Bond?

I HAVE to keep this one going as the original premise is TOOOOO funny.

BTW....listened to HJJ over the past 3 days and if you are running promos during Rush for Helen's show, after all the press and talk they have been doing about the move, to remind them that there is a new time for the show....THERE IS A PROBLEM ON OXFORD ST.! Something bigger than Rush will be able to help

Well, listen to this one. I just got a phone call from someone very close to Buddy. Buddy told him tonight he's only working until 1 PM EVERY DAY!! WTF does that mean?? WC said several times Buddy wouldn't work 4 hours a day. I think Walter was right. Guess we'll find out later this morning!

Yes indeed I WAS right!
Not bad, come in for 3 hours get 300,000 a year, not to mention 'special goodees'
WHJJ doesn't know how lucky they are.
Here's one thing to look out for and its VERY important; If Buddy has a guest on
who is also a convicted felon or a member of Organized Crime, thats a Parole violation.
(No associating with felons or Mafia.)
The Feds will be waiting for just such an event.
Buddy puts on a John Celona or former Governor Diprete and Buddy could have problems.

Am I NUMBER 15,000 ??

Jesus! Missed it by THAT much . :(
Another reason why I drink to access!!

DRINKS! are on,,,,, BUDDY! ;D :D ;) :)

We're thinkin' you mean "to excess."
But why quibble?
An all-new Prison Break BEGINS NOW, on Fox.

And I've got to wait until January for 24 and Lost....."Blink, Blink, Blink"

Basically Wpro ratings are 5 TIMES greater then Whjj. Whjj is DEAD.
The only SURIVOR over there is Helen Glover . Why is Jim Corwin not fired 10 times over, Why?

ryan

HJJ General Manager Corwin is the Mastermind of the killing of a once great station.
The question of the year is, Why is he still working in Radio? What kind of people run C.C.?
Don't they know their Providence Flagship was literally sunk, by it's Captain?
Corwin sins are as followws; He lost John Depetro. He installed Air America. Hired Howie Bart,
Let Arlene Violet run wild. Fired 15 people at Christmas time last year. Lastly, abandoned the local
talk at HJJ for National. HJJ needs the mind of a genius. Corwin has delivered that of a Retarded Man.
The title of this thread is upside down. We all know what it should say.

Hey, if you're running bird-fed stuff for most of the day with only one local host, you can still make a decent amount of $ even with low ratings. That's why Corwin is still there....

Dave, I think you work at WPRO, right? If you do, good for you. It's a great station. About what
you said. Aren't we talking about WHJJ? We're not talking about WALE.Whjj and Wpro used to be neck and neck. It's not like Wpro went ahead by 20 or 30 % either. Wpro is ahead by 500 %. I look at the numbers and still can't believe it. I've seen firings for just a small loss in Market share. Whjj, from what I hear, has lost a great deal of their Adds compared to 5 years ago. Running a station into the ground is the biggest and best reason in the world to fire a G.M. Don't you think?

Don't miss The Big Picture...

Zoom out for a wider-angle shot.
This isn't about one person in one market.

ACTUAL QUOTE, Emailed from a Clear Channel GM I know, in another market:

“Clear Channel has become the anti-radio company. In the beginning they truly were an entrepreneurial company and the managers ran the markets. Fast forward to today and it's a corporate cram down of everything from spot loads and personnel decisions degrading the product. And they wonder why ratings are slipping in two-thirds of the rated markets they own.”

But the fun has just begun.

Holland,
thanks for the insights only you can give us.

In an earlier post, Whatdidusay, mentioned the Firings last year, Air America and several
other things. I happen to Know those were all Jim Corwin ideas.
I guess you're saying, he had to do all that?
Bottom line is Heads at Clear Channel have already pressed the Red Button. It's only a matter of time?

I tuned into Buddy this week and it was a one hour commercial for Taska Automotive! Now I've met Mr. Taska Sr. and he seems like a fine man. But isn't he a Buddy sponsor? With past problems with WPRO's Public File, I hope they logged that hour as commercial matter. Two minutes on the conception of the Mustang, 58 minutes of Taskas 98% customer approval rating. Next thing ya know the PD will be letting Dan York have that guy on who makes beer.

RE "problems with WPRO's Public File"

The requirement for Program Logs was eliminated years ago.

The pertinent issues would be on-air disclaimers (i.e., "Pro Personalities are frequently compensated for their appearances") and/or "Program-Length Commercial."
