WPRO is hurting , WHJJ is gaining

ryan,

Nope, I don't work at PRO. Been out of the area 6+ years, now doing my thing in the Philly market. Would have given my eye teeth for a gig like that but am having fun at he 2 stations I now work at.

RIP Dan Fogelberg

For me, he was "a four-market act."
On WPRO in the 70s, we played "Part of the Plan," "Longer," and "Heart Hotels."
On WKBR and WKBW, I played "Leader of the Band," and "Run For The Roses."
This time of year, we're hearing "Another Auld Lang Syne."
And when I got back to WSNE, his sound defined our station.
He had a packed Providence Civic Center on its feet.
Everybody knew all the words.

This morning, www.DanFogelberg.com tells us that we've lost him at 56.
Advanced prostate cancer.
He died peacefully at his home in Maine.

I saw him at what might have been his last local concert at The Tent in the 90s. Great performer. His "The First Christmas Morning" is one of the best Christmas CDs out there. There's a great line from Ernest Borgnine in the underrated Trey Parker/Matt Stone movie Baseketball complaining about today's youth:

You kids today with your loud music and Dan Fogelberg, Zima, hula hoops, and your pac man video games.

I haven't seen the numbers yet, but if WPROs Buddy Cianci show isn't a full 2 points above Rush on WHJJ, then WHJJ would FINALLY be gaining. Imagine that.

Rush did very well against Yorke. Dan is down from 2 to 3. Dan goes way up starting at 3 and Rush is BEATING wpro from 1 to 2. From 10 to 1 pm Buddies numbers are the best on talk radio. I also saw Depetro lost some ground to a much improved Helen Glover show. Glovers show is in trouble, however. The show just lost their crack producer and now have a pretty lost one. Glover needs that sharp wit and mind Tim S. had. Now, its gone.
Holland Cooke, wondering what you think about all this.

"Holland Cooke, wondering what you think about all this."

Moi?

As Groucho sang, "Hello, I must be going."
Good morning from Texas, pre-dawn.
RUNNING to the airport for Al Peterson's Talk Media Seminar in Scottsdale.
Notes to follow.
It'll be stop #4-of-4 on a storied 2-week, 3 time-zone-road-trip..

Wait'll you see NEXT book.
Historically, there's been "a Rush residual" effect when he leaves a station.
Everyone hasn't yet figured out he's not on WPRO any more.
The-station-he-left gets confusion credit for a while.
Arbitron is a memory test.
Obama just won ten-in-a-row.

If Rush isn't hot now-til-November, when will he be?
Meanwhile, Dan is giggling about Capitol TV, and taunting-then-ducking The Speaker.
Please...

I think you mean "meanie;" as in the Beatles' classic Yellow Submarine

Re: your comment about the WPRO afternoon host. BOO!!!

Oh!
He can DISH-IT-OUT...but you think he can't TAKE it?

Good afternoon (Mountain Time) from Scottsdale, Arizona, which -- if you've never been to the Phoenix area -- looks A LOT like "Bedrock."

Yorke was a complete A-hole on the air today to EVERYBODY. The guy is a Bizarro who is losing his mind more and more each day. Claims he has high blood pressure too. Who wants to roll tape for when he has his on air heart attack? First class Fruit Loop.

yes he was an A hole today. He sounded somewhat racist. I felt very uncomfortable with his Black voice, making fun of Obama. Several callers were cut off in mid sentence when they disagreed with Yorke.
I find myself agreeing with some of MR Cooke's observations on Dan. Maybe Dan wants to get fired?

The problem I have with Yorke is that he's pompus as hell for one thing. He actually sounds like he truly believes he is better than everybody else. #2. He doesn't give you a reason for his opinions. He'll just hang up on you if you don't agree with him. A good talk show host like Michael Savage will sit there and debate. Savage will give you a point by point run down of exactly why he has a certain opinion on something. The guy knows how to converse like an adult. Even when you don't agree with him, you still feel satisfied that you gained a new perspective on things. Savage will help you understand. Yorke is totally useless in this capacity. The only thing Dan will make you understand is that he's a bitter prick. Tune in Dan Yorke. You're guaranteed to get an empty headed slam and then learn nothing in the end. He's an overpaid Time filler. Nothing more, nothing less.

All week Yorkes been Foul with the callers and his general tone. Maybe Joint is right.

Dan is not well. That's all I am going to say. Maybe his meds are mixed up. But, with that said, he is just not a very nice human being to begin with. However, he is smart. He has managed to scare management and they are afraid of him. His many temper tantrums are very well known.

jointchinese, I bet you work with Dan , or have worked with him. You know too much.
Yorke has told some stories about going bancrupt. Why doesn't Dan simply come clean on the mental
issues? I remember reading Tom Synder suffered from depression. He drank to excess, drugs.
If dan could let us understand , hed have a better show. That would make me happy.

There are certain hosts who won't allow you into their private lives. They close up and put on a facade. Their show is an act and they are an act. They are barely comfortable in their own skin. On the other hand you have Howard Stern who has no problem telling you that he goes to a Psychiatrst 4 days a week. That he needs Ambien to even get to sleep. There is something about such honesty which really sets you free. Dan's problem is that he's all bottled up and he's afraid to show real emotion. We are dealing with what sounds like a very frustrated man.

Dan should not feel embarrased about his mental issues. Half of Hollywood is in therapy. So what? I deal with anxiety issues myself and I have my own therapist. Big Deal. I'm not going to sit here and hide behind some imaginary wall and pretend that I live in a perfect world where I'm Mr. Happy. I've got problems just like anybody else. It is the people who have issues and won't acknowledge them who are in real trouble. Sweeping things under the rug only works for a little while until one day you finally explode. Lately Dan sounds like Mount St. Helens before the Big eruption. He better release some steam before it's to late. This week he sounds like he's well on his way to a having a major meltdown.

Take some mental health days Dan if that is what you need. Nobody is going to hold it against you. First priority should be you. You come before the radio station. Take care of yourself.

In reply to Skynet's post:

You guys remind me of "Little Old Ladies sitting around knitting and talking about their friends and families problems when you go on and on about Dan's so-called problems.

He tells us more in one half hour than JD says about his private life in years. Yet, we never hear one thing about JD's problems or wife. He
just tells us about how wonderful he is!!!!

This is Dan's style....GET USED TO IT!!!!! there are listeners out there who love his ranting and raving.....

JD doesn't tell us about HIS private life because he doesn't want his wife to find out!!! Dan is NOT well.

WHOA! Toooooooooo personal...

Seldom am I The Voice of Reason, but...

This web site really, really, really is most-useful when it's about what-comes-out-the-speaker.
The out-of-bounds-stuff discourages important contributors.

We've gone beyond the point of insightful discussion....really no one's business for us to be discussing what might be going on w/ Dan (which w/ all the anonimity here is grossly speculation) when he is off the mic. Joint, you've brought this up before, let sleeping dogs lie. if Dan Talks about it, fine...he doesn't, so let's not

Dan loves calling people names and putting others down. I have NO sympathy for this man. YES he is ill, but he still IS a bad human being. Is Good Friday close? I always love that show when Dan puts on his vestments and professes to be a proud Catholic. On that day he uses hushed tones and speaks of forgiveness. What a phoney!
