WPRO morning mess

poor salty..I try to listen but it is rough. They talk so fast and giggle, and it sounds so bad. They seem to act like they have "been there done that". ???

Yes...It IS a mess....but it's the only game in town. No other station even attemps to do that sort of a morning news block.

As much as I like NPR's "Morning Edition", WRNI only offers short news capsules in-between the network segments...not a lot if you're trying to get caught up on the local goings-on.

And as for the rest?....They're not even trying.

If you watch on the studio cam, Andrew G looks bored even yawns at times.

Tara G is more attentive and into the show. I think there is some chemistry between them at times, then at other times they seem to just tolerate each other.

Speaking of TG, wasn't she married? I'm sure she's mentioned her hubby (and other family members) on air.

rib00 is Tara g. no longer married? I have never heard any mention of a husband. I saw some talk about her divorce on craigslist a while back but don't remember much of it. :-X

The morning show tries to cram too much into too little a time. Everything is a game of beat the clock, slow the hell down.

Agreed. I think it is an example of brainless program directors who don't understand their audience. And, the fact that there isn't competition that provides an alternative, allows the PD's to sit and snooze all day.

It's sad that they have 12 hours of talk hosts slamming the politicians and state "leaders" and not a damn thing is changing in the state. We are broke, the unions run the state, we hire union related nitwits for $90K a year, the governor is dumber than dirt, the legislature is listening to special interests and ignoring the people they serve, and we are the most corrupt state in the US.

And, somehow the people running PRO think they are providing meaningful and interesting radio. Wonderful business, isn't it??

Been some 35 years since I moved out of Rhode Island radio.

Nice to see that nothing has really changed!

It definitely moves along pretty quick. Thats not going to be for everyone, but Tara is quite good at that approach. Her cohort is another story. I'm still not sure what his last name is as it's sounds different every time i hear it. Also, i'm not sure how local he is. The other day he was doing sports and mentioned that the Pawsox won with a walkoff homerun all morning. I'm not sure he realizes that they draw 8000 to 10000 people every summer night, but I'd bet i wasn't the only one wanting to know who hit it.

I liked Tara when she was with John DePetro, and I like her as a legit host, but that other guy doesn't seem to fit. I like Bekah Berger, put her and Tara on in the morning! Or Tara and Hummel..

Bye Bye whatever your name is in the morning, Hello Steve Kass

Tara and Steve Kass may be a better arrangement.

Tara several years ago did mention her husband and teenage kiddos.

If Tara is divorced, pehaps this is why she is doing the real estate commercial
.
If divorced I prefer Helen in the morning.

Also, I find doing a program on Sat. about movie stars demeaning, four years of college , works in marketing, but, mentally still a teenager.

The build-up and hype surrounding the return of Steve Kass is one thing...and to be expected.

BUT....

I'm still annoyed at how a recorded "report" of the event got used on the WPRO Morning Mess Tuesday morning, as though it were a real "news" item.

If that wasn't self-serving....I don't know what is!

Jeez, anything anyone does at thae station is shot down in ridicule, is that about it now?

Steve Kass is newsworthy as he is back in the news/talk game after being away for a number of years. Just because HJJ didn't get him back doesn't mean you have to spit on him....

For the haters of the Saturday Hollywood Gossip show, you do realize that Access Hollywood, Entertainment Tonite, TMZ, Extra, E! etc are some of the highest rated syndicated shows on the air at this point and People, US Weekly, OK!, Entertainment Weekly, etc are the highest rated/distributed magazines available...right? For those disparaging, not your demo; but don't hate the demo it is appealing to...yopur parents hated the Beatles & Elvis when they first emerged (maybe your grandparents)...get over yourselves....Keep it up Tara & Becka!

Not from me. Earlier in this thread, I gave WPRO credit for even attempting a morning news block in the first place.

That being said.....a number of folks in this thread...including me....have mentioned that the WPRO Morning Mess is nothing if not fast paced...there being precious little time for much of anything besides time checks, temperature checks, traffic reports, and commericials.

That WPRO should use up some of that precious time for news with a "report" essentially congratulating itself for getting Steve Kass back into its fold meant that some item of legitimate news didn't make it to the air Tuesday morning.

In my book...THAT counts as self-serving.

bring back kass, since he is a radio pro. I cannot stand failed TV people trying to make it in radio and that is what these 2 are ,Tara and anderson. She giggles and makes no sense plus gave wrong time twice this morning.

I think Tara has a pleasant enough personality and is competent in her roll, but she is neither extraordinarily entertaining (i.e. humorous) nor a hard-hitting journalist (i.e. good interviewer).

Andrew seems terribly bored in the studio (watch the webcam to see for yourself.) And, I think there is a lack of chemistry between them. Is Andrew pissed that he is second fiddle to Tara?? Who knows what he was promised when he was hired??

Together they are RI's version of Regis and Kelly. Does anyone ever watch them any more?

I think Kass in the big chair with Tara would be a better team. Hard not to have chemistry with a pro like Kass.

But, no matter who hosts the show, the format stinks because of the need to do traffic and weather every 10 minutes. And, the management can't come up with something more creative and entertaining. Without competition taking away ad revenue, they won't even try to improve.

Yep!....That pretty much tells the story in a nutshell. Too bad.

Traffic and weather are 2 of the most important elements of a morning show. Most people do not listen to an entire show and there has to be repetition for audiences constantly tuning in. I don't hear them that much, but I like them. As far as Andrew looking bored on the webcam I've never seen, what do you think radio people do when they're not on mic? Jump around the studio and do handstands? He's working the show and format...not the webcam (which is probably a very stressful thing to deal with). He's thinking and planning when he's not on mic. And as far as the theory that someone not making shadow puppets for the webcam is probably disgruntled about something, that's nonsense. There are probably a lot of disgruntled and disillusioned people on the air, but it doesn't come across in their performance because they're professionals.
