WPRO Traffic Tip Line

What's the point of having this WPRO Traffic Tip Line if the people there rarely answer the phone? When they do answer the phone, they do not air the information that is called in. They are too worried about talking about the usual traffic tieups on I-95, I-195, and the "6/10 Connector" in Providence. Another gripe: they barely ever mention anything about I-195 in Fall River (the Braga Bridge backs up anytime during the day because of years-long construction on the bridge...at least the last ten years). I know TV and radio news in the Providence market focuses on a little bubble of Providence, Pawtucket, Warwick, and Cranston....but these stations need to realize that they have listeners in Bristol County, Massachusetts as well...and those areas should be mentioned as well (Routes 6, 24, I-195, etc). I don't give a crap about where the Arbitron and/or Neilsen "meters" are. Cover the news where it happens.

Agreed. If you go to a larger market such as LA or New York, they cover the whole region. I have even heard News stations in New York cover traffic backups to around Exit 60 in Connecticut. That's about 100 miles from Manhattan. But around here they can't even manage to cover an area any further than 20 miles from downtown Providence. This is small city living for you. Everything is done on a smaller scale. Including the way we get our radio.

I've found the tip line very responsive. Keep in mind, the person you talk to might not be the one on the air, so there is some delay in getting the information out to all of the reporters.
I can't comment on the Fall River info seeing as it doesn't affect me and I rarely get out that way. Fall River is its own market, so that may be the reason or that no one has ever taken the time to voice the complaint to management as opposed to dropping the complaint here to the 10 people that read the board.
