WPRO'S Jimmy Gray

I didn't know he was in the hospital, I don't have a clue where he was in the hopital and I have no idea why he was in the hospital. I'm just glad he's out now. I hope you feel better soon Jimmy. Best wishes to you now and always!

PRO-FM was my fave station back in his morning show days there. Jimmy was one of the best "one man band" morning drive guys. Jimmy, Tony "PRO-FM's little fella" Bristol, David Simpson, Tony "TM in the PM" Mascaro...a great lineup.

Yes, I'm out of the hospital. Thanks for the care and concern. In fact, I've been in and out of the hospital so many times since March the orderlees and I are on a first name basis.
8 days in March with pneumonia, released, back in 3 days later with a ruptured gall bladder. After 5 days and many tests, they found cancer in the colon and lung, and to make it a bit more interesting, an aortic aneurysm. (and the hits just keep on comin') So we got the colon cancer taken care of (retest in 3 months to make sure they got it all, or doesn't come back.) Then did the lung surgery. Luckily NO cancer, was probably showing as an infection from pneumonia, but did lose 10% of the lung. Now home recuperating from the aneurysm surgery. All this to a guy who has a yearly physical, and goes to the Doctor every 10-12 weeks since 1999. While recuperating from the aneurysm, I had this terrible nightmare. Walking out of the hospital, I got hit by an ambulance rushing an old geezer in with an erection that lasted more than 4 hours, and he was alone when he took the darn pill. At least when I do my takes next year, my CPA, Merv the Magician at Loop-holes-R-us will have some legit figures to work with for a change and with receipts!! Again, thanks for the concern. Jimmy Gray

Jimmy,

Get well soon, friend. Thanks for the kind words you wrote in a private post re: my brother Sam.

The PRO family was a special group back then! (not saying they're not now, I just don't know anyone now hehe)

Jimmy, I've been asking Extension 150 for updates when I see him. Glad to hear you are out & about. Quick & healthy recovery!

Seems to be a rough health year for a lot of people. I've been getting sick a lot more than usual too. I don't even want to mention George Carlin, Bernie Mac and Issac Hayes. I wish you well my friend. No more nightmares please. Now I'm going to end up having some of my own....lol. Take care and I wish you nothing but better health in the days and years to come.

Day trader = broke. Unless of course you have the intelligence of a Jim Cramer.

As one of my colleagues at Merrill Lynch used to say, it's not timing the market... it's time in the market.

Imagine if the Lightning Round portion of Mad Money were on the radio every day for 15 minutes a day. With just the sound effects and that bed he has playing behind him, I think it could be a big winner.

Now only if the executive level managers in this business would swallow their pride.

Jimmy, years ago when we were very young and I was using the name "S. Brindle-Browne", we worked together
briefly at the original WICE. You tried to convince me that management thought my priorities should be: 1)
commercial production, 2) show prep. I viewed spot production as secondary to show prep. Management disagreed. I got canned. But I always appreciated your guidance. You were a class act then and, apparently,
you haven't changed. Sorry to hear about the challenges you've been facing but glad to see that your attitude remains positive. Best of luck.

Jimmy and BoomerBuzz, Don't know if either of you will remember me, I was just a skinny 16 year old redheaded Bishop Hendricken High School kid in 1969 and my very first on air job was playing beautiful music up on the hill at WPRO-FM. It was a big deal for me back then to go up to 24 Mason Street and hang out with Jimmy, Vik, Andy and all the guys on the AM which was THE powerhouse back then. I had the thrill of a lifetime in the studio one time when Davy Jones had to use the facilities and asked me to run the board for 5 minutes. Got to play one of those great PRO jingles and slip cue the big 16 inch TT 3 (the one on the right) into the next song. After working at a bunch of the suburban stations, (yes BoomerBuzz, I worked in the same asbestos covered basement studio in West Warwick at then WKRI), I wound up for a couple of years at WLKW back when it was the big FM, then moved to Lowell MA and was PD at WCAP for 15 years. I then decided to get a real job, so left in 1995, and am now a VP at a bank in northern MA.

BoomerBuzz, you were working at WPRO-FM when I told you about this new Drake formatted station, WSVP and before I knew it you were back to doing Top 40 there. Always appreciated everything both of guys gave me for advice.

Jimmy, sorry to hear about everything you've gone through. Best wishes for the future.

Joe Corcoran

Joe, I remember you well. Nice to know you're doing well in banking. Have to put you down on my contact list. In 10 years or so, when Mom & Pop radio stations stage a come back, we'll know where to get the financing! Regards, Jimmy Gray

I haven't been posting for a while because of some of the nut jobs on here, but Joe I knew exactly who you were from your post even before I got to your name at the bottom. The skinny redheaded kid was the giveaway. I worked with you, but it was way past 1969. Didn't make much money but if nothing else, got some good airchecks that opened doors. I keep it anonymous on here, but it's good to hear you're doing well. Now I'm going to go to bed & probably dream of playing Sweet Home Alabama all summer long.

Joe, based on what's been going on in the radio business during the past 10 years, it appears that you made the right move ! By the way, thanks for that long ago tip about WSVP. It was the connection which eventually got me to Washington, Chicago, Pittsburgh and NYC.
