I noticed a big difference in 94.5 PST's music between this year and last year, and 3-4 years ago. I looked at its top 100 songs, and none of them are hip hop songs. The slogan has changed to "#1 for Variety" from "#1 for Today's Hit Music". Last year, it was playing a lot more rhythmic tracks, and less rock, and sounded like Z100. It had a more "Q102" sound in the evening. Now it sounds like 93.7 WSTW, an Adult CHR. The dayparting is less evident. 3 years ago at 97.5, it was sounding almost like a rhythmic CHR, like how Q102 sounds now. While I miss the PST of 3 years ago, I can understand why it made its changes. 94.5 has a decent signal in Philly, and less so towards New York than 97.5 used to. There are 2 other CHR stations in Philly, and 2 Urban stations. 4 years ago, there was only 1 CHR station in Philly and 1 in New York, and 97.5 had the advantage of being the strongest CHR station in central NJ, where Z100 and Q102 are hard to hear. PST is appealing to a slightly older audience now, the same audience it appealed to years ago. It's also in a good position to flip to Alternative since it is playing a lot of rock. If New York loses K-Rock, I could see it flipping, since there is no Alternative station like K-Rock or Y100 in the area.
