WPTF 680 question

When I see WPTF's nighttime pattern I wonder why they are not really loud at night in Florida , and along the Georgia & South Carolina coast.
I recently was in those areas and they are not strong at night, not when you consider they throw a big part of 50 kw ( or more ) in those directions at night ?

They are louder in the null they have at me here in Western NC on most nights.

Maybe I was hearing them on a bad night for skip in that direction but I've notice this on other occasions in those areas at night too.

I've picked WPTF up on a portable on numerous trips to Orlando in the past, and even kept up with local news while down there. One factor might be WCNN in Atlanta, though they are directional and they drop to 10 kw at night.

If you were on the Carolina or Georgia coasts you could have been in the skip cancellation zone, which could affect WPTF's reception. Also WRKO or WCBM could have some impact if you were on the coast.
