WPTF 680

I understand that WPTF 680 is a Class B station but it seems it is now boxed in on its frequency by other stations , this happened over the years, from both daytime and nightime signals.
Did WPTF fight against any of these other assignments over the years ?
I know the assigned stations are in WPTF nulls in most cases but in particular did WPTF have any kind of nightime signal in Atlanta,GA. before the 680 station in Atlanta went 24 hours ?

North of Atlanta, in a deep WCNN null, WPTF is an easy catch at night. 35 miles from WCNN-680. WPTF mixes with a bunch of other signals on 680, so its not a "knock-out"signal, but audible much of the time.

I lived in Atlanta in the 1970s, and if I recall correctly WRNG (680 in those days) was 24 hours. However, I think it ran less than the current 10 kw at night.
 
WSB has a pretty good nighttime signal out of Atlanta on 750AM. And WBT can be heard up and down the east coast from Charlotte on 1110AM, but not to the west. So I listen to WBT on 99.3FM when they block their western signal at night. Not sure about WPTF but will check out 680.
 
heading west at night from raleigh WPTF signal usually dissapears around the hillsborough area, to the east it booms all the way to the coast if Im correct the use only the two small self supporter towers at night and the large self supporter one during the day

WBT's signal is completly gone at night by gastonia, whats interesting is WGIV 1370 45 watt signal is listenable in gastonia, whenever they actually power down, i've heard them booming into atlanta one night.

WGIV's tower used to be at Eastridge Mall. I guess they moved when they moved the city of license to Pineville.

I remember one time hearing some talk show on WPTF and the caller said it was hard to hear the station in North Raleigh. The host said they picked us up really well in Cuba.

I also heard WPTF in the mountains once, just a few miles east of WRGC, which was also at 680. I don't know what WRGC's signal was like at night but that was pretty amazing.
 
Speaking of WPTF, does anyone know the reason David Horn took over NC's Morning News from 5-7am and Brian Freeman doing it from 7-9am? I haven't heard any explanation.
 
I've also been spending alot of time wandering about this alot all the time if someone can please answer asap as possible! ??? :mad:

Does anyone actually think that less Brian Freeman on the air is a BAD thing? ::)

The probable real reason is that Freeman, for the first time in years, is being forced to work hard to keep his station afloat and getting in to go on the air at 5am and working until 6pm was probably getting old.
