WPTF mornings

Promos are running adn another site reports WPTF has their new morning man. If it is Scott Fitzgerald from Cincinnati that's another good hire for Curtis. Any confirmation? Does this mean no more Jeff Metcalf?

My brother lives in Dayton and I have heard Scott Fitzgerald many times on holiday trips. This is a damn good hire for WPTF and IMO puts them in the big leagues. The triangle deserves a better talk station than WPTF has been over the years.

Impressive. I can't say much about their facilities but give them credit for the talent stable they are building.

They're growing and they're putting their money into "good" growth. I bet once they get their staff in place and start making some $ from them, then they'll put some money into the facilities. That's just my guess. You have to weigh what's most important at this stage of the game.

Yep, it's true, and WPTF is very excited to have Scott, he comes from WLS in Cincinnati...he has a pedigree a mile long, and from one of the front-runners in talk radio in the country, no less. His dad has been a morning show host for years in the Cincinnati market. He starts next Monday, July 7th.

Some of the best stations in America have horrible facilities. They are in the high rent district of Highwoods, right?

High rent district...yes. But in a building that's co-owned by Don Curtis and the ownership of CW-22....about the only benefit of Curtis being on Highwoods is the lawn maintenance near the driveway!

It's not Fitzgerald's first full-time gig. I heard him when I lived in Dayton, but he had a different name then. I like the pace of the show better now.

Speaking of WPTF. How is their night time signal in the Triangle as well as up/down the east coast? WPTF's night signal at 50kw seems a little difficult to receive when traveling after dark. I know they are more restricted at night, but was curious how their evening signal drops off in and around the triangle and state.

PTF barely made it to Wake Forest a lot of nights lately, but I've heard they've been heard as far south as Miami. I don't know about recently, but I don't think they've ever made it far north.

I picked them up a few times, last summer, down in Sarasota, FL....also one night, last fall, I was able to pick them all the way to Asheville on a trip. I spent the drive switching between them and the old WIBC in Indianapolis.

WPTF has a null to the north during the night. I used to live in Henderson and could not pick them up at night much past North Raleigh. I now live in Orlando and can pick them up at night (not very often now) when there is no Spanish interference. I have also dxed them in Miami.

In 1995, WBT in Charlotte bought a small FM to the west so they could have a nighttime signal. I wonder why WPTF never took over the 102.5 frequency?

I am sure WPTF covers its metro quite well day and night and from the $$$ perspective, that is really all that counts.

Not really...WBT is directional North and South at night. There is almost no signal in Gaston or Cleveland counties if the DA is working correctly. Ergo the FM- licensed to Chester- to fill in those counties at night.

I must have misread something.

No, I guess WBT doesn't cover the entire metro area at night. But it seems like WPTF doesn't either.

The signals for WPTF and WBT were set many decades ago. In both markets the metros have literally grown beyond the stations nighttime contours.

Some metros have grown naturally while others (like Raleigh-Durham and Greensboro-WS-HP) have grown by the addition of counties that have only a slim connection to the original definition. Thank FMs that reach into those counties and have trouble competing in the original footprint.
