WPTF

geez, Surfdude, give us listeners a break, as no one knew Jack was sick until hearing the Martinezes this morning. And if you actually read the post, I did give Jack a break...said he might be a good host eventually. Obviously, he didn't have a good support system, otherwise the show would have been on top of the day's top news rather than listening to Maury talk about how hosts don't need to actually prepare for a show. Then again, with the show's theme supposedly about how to follow a legend, maybe the content was meant to mimic an old Maury and Donna show. Then again, if it was about following legends, does that mean the folks who run WPTF are admitting that Kevin Miller was a legend, despite all the hate spewed about him on this message board?

And, since there was no comment on the lack of content provided by Mark and Lisa, other than a few handclaps, obviously Surfdude is just a friend of Jack's and wasn't actually listening to the show. Its very nice of you to come to his defense, but the post was critical of the show, not Jack personally.

Kevin Miller is as much a legend as I am a pro bodybuilder. Please. What an insult to the memory of a hall of famer like Maury. Secondly, when you insult the show, you insult Jack Boston, because we're a team. And lastly, Mark and Lisa were probably the most underutilized people on WPTF before Jack's arrival as host and his willingness to include them in the conversation. They are personalities, not just people who push buttons or an occasional voice on a newscast.

"What an insult to the memory of a hall of famer like Maury."

The 'memory' of Maury? Is he actually dead? Was that just an talking animatronic on the show Monday morning? Maybe it's like Disney World's Hall of Presidents. WPTF's Hall of Hosts.

For those of you who haven't heard...this is an update on Jack Boston in an article in the N & O...

DANNY HOOLEY, Staff Writer
Jack Boston, the new host of "North Carolina's Morning News" on WPTF-AM, was diagnosed with leukemia Thursday.
Boston, 45, hired to replace Kevin Miller, lasted only one day in his new job before the diagnosis. Facing a month of aggressive chemotherapy, Boston plans to discuss his situation live from Rex Hospital during the show's 7 a.m. hour.
Before taking the new job, Boston was a snarky but genial host of "Carolina's Greatest Hits" on WWMY-FM, which like WPTF (680 AM) is owned by Curtis Media. He worked Monday, then went to the doctor. Tests revealed myoblastic leukemia.
Boston said he is trying to stay positive. Ever since his first North Carolina radio job at a station in Wilmington in 1980, he has dreamed of a talk-radio gig like the one at WPTF. He said he is determined to live out his dream.
"I'm not going to be crying about it because the bottom line is, you've got to be positive from here on out," he said.
Rick Martinez, a columnist for The News & Observer's editorial pages, and his wife, Donna Martinez of the John Locke Foundation, filled in after Boston became ill.
Next week, Mike Butts, a finalist for the job, will take over the 5:30-to-9 a.m. show -- at least until Boston can return, said Phil Zachary, executive vice president of Curtis Media. Zachary hopes that will be "by the holidays."
