WPTK 850

They are deffinitely switching it up in the morning with Demitri of the old 96 Rock. That should be really interesting. Wonder if what their plans are for him.

That's because the company that owns them is bad AND sorry! ;D

Curtis is just lost. They've got AM signals that nobody wants to listen to, regardless of what's on the air.

AM Radio is finally dying off. There will be no Rush Limbaugh revival to the AM Band for the next generation. A few legendary stations like a 1010 WINS or other big news stations in major markets will hang around.....I would imagine they would eventually be on the FM after a while anyway.

This is the HD generation, NOBODY under the age of 50 gives two craps about AM Radio. PERIOD. It has no place in modern society. It's terrible audio quality. As the old time radio folk audience dwindles, it won't be replaced. Some of the people talking about putting music on certain AM signals are completely delusional. Makes zero business sense. Curtis Media has really no other option unless they just sell their stations to Spanish Broadcasters.

Stafferman - you don't really know radio. AM stations are among the highest billers in large markets (WGN, KCBS, WCBS, WSB, WBT, endless list really).

Sports radio on AM has many men under 35 listening in all markets that have them.
Are Hispanics not people, too?

Granted, the Curtis stations have changed since losing Rush, but your blanket statements about AM are misinformed.

I think the answer for some AMs (Curtis Media's 680 included) is a rotating wheel of News, Sports, Traffic, and Weather. High energy, brief, and accurate.
Like the old CNN headline news - gives us 20 minutes, we'll tell you everything you need to know.

WSB and KCBS are actually also on FM now. I think that AM-only stations still have viability in larger markets, but I feel that it's slowly becoming irrelevent in many markets, in the form we've known it in for a long time. I see more (somecase secondary) sports affiliations, Hispanic/Latino programming, gospel, niche programming in the band's future.

I think one issue with all of these Curtis AM's is that there isn't much on them that's compelling to listen to. WBT, WGN, etc are different. When Rush, etc and the sports programming on 99.9 went to FM, I wonder how many people quit listening to the band in Raleigh entirely?

Clearly you didn't read what I said

All you did was take what I said and spin it into your direction.....The major market AM News Heritage stations will continue to have an audience. That, however, is CLEARLY not a trend for the rest of the United States. so CLEARLY, YOU don't know radio. Flip around the AM band in any market that's outside of the top 20 and you will hear static and the occasional oldies/spanish station, and a floundering "News" Talk station.

You my friend are the one that needs to do some research.

This statement is not true.

NOBODY under the age of 50 gives two craps about AM Radio. PERIOD. It has no place in modern society.

We can continue to play semantics surfdude....

But my statement is generally true. For this market, as an example, if AM radio is still vibrant as I assume it is in your mind with your staunch defense of it.

What AM Radio station is lighting it up right now in a top-45 market?
