WPUP Tower

The Old Bulldog 103.7 tower has been taken down. I saw it a few weeks back on GA106 North of Ila. Only thing left is the X-mitter Shack. I thought it was kinda weird to take it down.....many of the stations that have moved out of the area.....even years ago.... the towers are still standing......including WFOX and WNGC.

I am surprised they did not rent it to a cell service. The 105.7 tower (seen from I 575) has a cell array at the lower part and what appears to be some kind of a two radio service at the top. 105.7 has been off that tower for years, but the two antenna's on it apparently generate enough income to get the tower light on.

That's what I would have done with it. But again, some people don't feel it's worth fooling with and would rather take it down. They may have sold the tower to someone who's gonna erect it somewhere else. Who knows.

Many of these towers which hold FM towers and were built before cellular took off. are not structurally strong enough to hold additional antennae. Not sure if that was the case with this tower or not but also, if a cellular tenant was interested in that location, they likely would have already been there. Cellular places antenna where they have lots of use and the old 103.7 is located in a very rural area. Big difference in where it's located and the old 105.7 along I-575

If it's a very rural area, I bet a repeater or two could be placed on it. In this age of cellular telephones everywhere, I'm making a nice little sum of dough by having a few community trunking repeaters scattered about in rural areas. Farmers, delivery services and HVAC companies seem to like them the most. While one or two cell phones are rather inexpensive, you have a fleet of 10 or more vehicles, each with a cell phone, can add up quickly.
