WPVI-DT3

Is the 6ABC AccuWeather channel gone? LiveWell channel is now on SD on FiOS on ch 465 in addition to 466 in HD. Turned on an OTA box and Live Well TV is on WPVI-DT in SD in addition to HD on WPVI-DT2. LiveWell is listed on the FiOS on-screen guide now both channels instead of Accu Weather on 465. Isn't there any way that channel 6 can downconvert DT-2 for Comcast & Verizon the way they downconvert DT-1 to SD? What's on Xfinity ch 246 now? I guess the content of the Accu Weather channel can now be streamed from the 6ABC website (at least the loacal forecast).
Action News at 7am, 7pm and 10pm anytime soon on Live Well TV in Philly?

I guess the 6ABC weather channel went the same way as NBC10's weather. I am getting Live Well OTA on both
6.2 and 6.3 now.

You are good, I missed this change and usually grab them first hand LOL...it does seem the weather is gone from crapcast 246 and replaced with living well, that was an HD channel only, on 245, now its on both channels. I used to love the local radar on 6, when it first launched, then it went to more in depth weather and now nothing :(

I think WFMZ has the best weather channel. During severe weather they have someone on every 15 minutes reviewing the radar and updating on warnings. If there is severe weather during the overnight (like a winter storm) they will even have someone there all night doing updated forecasts, radar etc.

Re: WPVI-DT3 & KABC-DT3

Not just a Philly thing. I just checked Verizon FiOS in SoCal and KABC has apparently done the same thing by replacing weather with an SD letterbox version of LiveWell. This may be an ABC move.

Just saw it flipping through the FiOS onscreen guide. FiOS has Live Well listed in the guide on both channels now. Just was at someone's house who has Xfinity and even though Live Well is on 254, the onscreen guide still has 6abc weather listed. I actually did like the Action News weather forecast every few minutes. I know that i can get it online anytime I want but, lazyness factor allowed me to get the Accu Weather forecast every few minutes just like on Action News.

Channel 6's website has not ben updated with the change on WPVI-DT3 yet. They still have it as 6abc wether now and give the Xfinity and FiOS channels.

Definitely an ABC thing. According to

http://www.rabbitears.info/market.php

New York, Chicago & San Francisco all have LW-SD in lieu of ABC weather. Now cable viewers with SD boxes have another channel they won't be watching. ;)

Couldn't these ABC DT-3 stations retransmit out of market co-owned local news? As a displaced North Jerseyan I for one would love to see WABC news once in awhile. I'm sure they could do the same for Baltimore, DC, Chicago, LA, Boston etc...

Sure they could, but then some more crappy programing nobody watches would not air.

I get the feeling that live well tv was the idea of a guy who wanted to start a cable network, but was told no. So he used his powers as a high up at ABC to force all locals to air this junk. Not only dedicate an subchannel, but lower the quailty of the main channel by having it as an HD only network. Now that ratings are non-existence this same person forces these same local channels to dedicate another sub-channel for a sd feed. What will happen when this one fails, and this guy can nolonger justify this waste of a network? Stay tuned.

It would've been better, & cheaper for ABC to start a super station type channel that aired old programing much like this, antenna, and rtv mixed in with local programing such as news repeats & of other local programs.

What I don't understand is that why do they need HD on DT-2 and SD on DT-3? If you use one of those ota digital SD boxes, wouldn't it down convert WPVI DT-2 to letterboxed SD? Why doesn't ABC down convert an SD letterboxed feed of WPVI DT-2 for Comcast and Verizon? Aren't they and all the other broadcasters down converting an SD feed for the cable and satellite companies and sending it via fiber to the headends? If we have either Xfinity or FiOS, are we never seeing an ota feed anyway? So if there is another Superbowl slip and you watch it on cable, there's nothing the FCC can do?
