WPVI To Call Itself "ABC6" Starting April 1?

This thread really crystallizes why some broadcast enthusiasts are in business, while others are on the message boards.

One of the most successful television stations in the history of American broadcasting may change its name because a domain name *may* become available? Major-market stations shouldn't brand themselves with their networks because it's a slap in the face to "individuality" and "losing one's self"?

My goodness...

Unfortunately, in this day and age of online forums, message boards, etc, it can be hard to even figure out sometimes who are truly broadcast enthusiasts (and those that work in the business), from those folks who are simply message board posters because they follow a certain subject matter and enjoy discussing it whether they have the facts or not. Many folks want to camouflage their true intentions and clearly don't give a spit what people think as they're comfortable in their own skin and know their place in the business. As for the ABC affiliate in Philadelphia, it's simply another O&O that in this case is smug and full of itself when its place of importance in daily life is minuscule as an entertainment entity. That's clearly the station's right, and the station HAS made a lot of money over the years, but so have many others around the country, so it's really no big deal in that sense. But hey, let them pound their chest if that makes them feel better. 99% of the population couldn't give a hoot.

6ABC or ABC6: Who the !@#$ gives a %^&*?

Since WPVI was a Cap Cities station and Cap Cities acquired ABC, it can be argued that ABC is a WPVI-owned station (not the other way around).

Congratulations. This is the biggest non-issue of all time
