WPXI-TV's Don Riggs Dies

Some sad news from WPXI-TV. Heritage booth announcer Don Riggs has passed away:

http://www.wpxi.com/news/18767041/detail.html

I'll always remember Don's off-camera bantering with Willie the Duck between the cartoons on "Cartoon Colorama" on the former WIIC-TV. An unforgettable voice that joins the likes of George Eisenhauer, Roger Willoughby-Ray and Henry DiBecco in Pittsburgh announcer Heaven, and one that will be sadly missed.

I'll remember Saturday mornings with Bwana Don on KDKA-TV and getting up before school to see Willie the Duck do the weather on KDKA.

I remember Don when he did "Daybreak" on KDKA-TV when I was little. He and Johnny Costa are probably reunited in the heavens. R.I.P. Don.

I remember running into Don at airshows around the Northeast as his career at WPXI was winding down. Airplanes brought out the little boy in Don. He loved anything with wings. He was the consumate professional in front of a camera and a gentle man away from it. We are all lessened by his departure.

I do remember that. He was a regular fixture at the Westmoreland County Air Show.
