WQAM 560 Miami Received in Pennsylvania

Yesterday around 9:55 PM, I received WQAM. They were talking sports. WQAM's signal was weak and faded in and out. Around 9:58, I heard a partial top-of-the-hour ID. I heard the last two call letters and "Miami/Ft. Lauderdale." Later, at midnight, WQAM was still audible. They were airing Sporting News Radio programming. I heard numerous mentions of Miami and South Florida, including a Toyota of South Florida commercial. WQAM was mostly under Radio Rebelde. It came in better when Rebelde's signal weakened for a few minutes.

I got WQAM again today around 7:05 PM. Their signal was stronger today. They were airing a show called "Dolphins Tonight." Again, I heard references to Miami and they mentioned their website wqam.com a few times. Also heard mentions of "Sports Radio 560 QAM." The signal still fought with Radio Rebelde though. Never thought I'd get this station. A 998 mile catch.

Good catch!! You don't know how much I can relate to how you have to feel!

Man, when I used to live up near Philly and had visited Miami for easter when I was only 11 years old. I wanted SO much to be able to hear WQAM up there but WFIL was too close.

Back then in 73, WQAM played top 40 music and I always listened while on vacation.

Even down at the shore well away from WFIL's strong signal, I had no luck getting WQAM.

Again, great catch!

I highly suggest also looking for WIOD on 610 up there too.

That's an excellent catch of WQAM. I pulled WQAM back in the Spring of 1982 while driving through Southern Kentucky. It was probably 4:00 in the morning; WQAM was playing Country back then. Interestingly a few minutes earlier, I was listening to 630 AM and figured I had on WLAP from Lexington (Lexington was only 45 miles away); it turned out to be WMAL out of Washington DC. Then I moved it over slightly (this was an analog dial) and KFI from Los Angeles was coming in fairly well (KFI was more or less Hot AC back then). Thought it was interesting to hear Coast to Coast reception from Rockcastle and Laurel Counties in Kentucky.

For those of you up north who are looking for Florida stations, my first suggestion would be 690 WOKV from Jacksonville.

When I lived in New Jersey, I was able to get them very often for a short time right after sunset when they are a still running on daytime mode.

They were WAPE back then.

Another one I got once was the then WRBQ 1380, now WMMI from St. Pete.

It was the same thing, just after sunset and only for a short time because they were still on their daytime mode too.

I once got WIOD 610 at night in Bethlehem. Pa even though WIP was only about 50 miles to the south.

That was weird.

With WLW and their IBOC practically next door, WOKV would be impossible. I did hear it (as WPDQ) in Fort wayne when they stayed on high power for Hurricane Hugo. Florida is a difficult state in the northlands.

Saw on another site that we're having "High Mid-Latitude Aurora", so may well be those conditions wiped out enough Northern interference to make the way clear for WQAM. Really cool when that happens.
