WQAQ 98.1 Hamden, CT Gone for Good?

WQAQ the college station at Quinnipiac University in Hamden, CT is apparently gone for good. An employee of Clear Channel who is a WQAQ alumnist posted a message on Allan Sniffen's board stating that college officials removed the tower and he's urging people to write to the president of the univeristy to get him to build a new tower.

Forgot to link the article from Quinnipac's Newspaper: http://www.quchronicle.com/media/st...200609061448&sourcedomain=www.quchronicle.com

Just like the "ghost parking lot" on Dixwell Avenue, it's probably gone for good.
Does anyone know why this work of art was removed?
I'm glad I have 3-D pictures of that.....

I htink the intention is to have it come back, once a new, suitable tower site is found.

The problem for the station, is more complicated. They have been silent since May. They have to get a mod of license/CP in order to do this, so an application must be filed, and the station has to be back on the air by April 30, 2007 or it will be gone for good.

Maybe so, but even after a year.. I have a feeling they will file for an STA.. it's not unheard of for a station to be granted a 2nd STA.

Only problem is that as a matter of law, the license will be cancelled. No STA in this case. They will have to file a second STA to remain silent, however, as the FCC only issues these for 6 months at a time. If they are not back on the air by the end of April, is will be bye bye.

There have been plenty of extensions granted and such on the one year rule.

If a station/company/group/school can prove they've been making a valiant effort and have had no success due to unavailability of equipment due to manufacturing shortages or the fact no tower space can be found, the FCC is somewhat forgiving.

they aren't delete happy.. contrary to popular belief, their favorite thing to do IS NOT to delete licenses.. that isn't what they are here to do.

I know a station, allbeit a COmmercial AM, that's been a CP for 8+ years now.. even has call letters. It's never even been on the air or had one inch of steel on the ground. Yet, it's still valid as a CP for several reasons.

I have a 5/8 wave ground wave antenna available, easily retunable to 98.1. If WQAQ can find a temporary location on campus for their transmitter/antenna and if they can apply for an STA (Station Test Authority) with the Commission, I would be glad to offer the antenna for the time they need it until a more permanent situation can be me made. There's absolutely NO reason for this station to be off the air. I am sure the Commission would allow WQAQ an STA for the time being until they fix their location problems. If WQAQ wants to use it, just have their CE contact me.
