WQBB ON AFTER MIDNIGHT

Tonight I drove through Knoxville and heard WQBB AM 1040 on the air after midnight. I thought they were daytime only as they are on WHO Des Moines' channel. Their signal was terribly distorted and barely listenable, but they were running MOYL and promos that clearly identified them. I checked fcc.gov and they are shown to run at 3kw during critical hours. But midnight must be long after critical hours. Was this maybe some sort of engineering test or are they actually staying on all night?

WQBB is a daytimer. I've heard them stay on 15-20 minutes after their required sign off times on occassions. That station is the dog of Journal Broadcast Knoxville. My guess is the transmitter failed to turn off by accident. Since they're so busy with WMYU, WWST, and WKHT, that station pretty much stays off their own radar. They probably haven't even noticed the technical glitch yet.

Thanks for posting this. I'll make sure I inform WQBB's PD Monday. Ever since WQBB switched from Sports to MOYL, I must admit I just turn them on at least once a day to make sure they're on the air. ;D

I love WQBB, in fact it's the station I listen to most (at least during the daytime). I had 1040 on the dial in the car when I came home from work at exactly 1am the other night and was shocked to be treated to a "WQBB Powell, Knoxville" ID blending with a "WHO Des Moines" ID

I'm told the problem has been resolved. I'm no engineer but evidently it was something as simple as a # in the code instead of a * (or maybe it was the other way around).

However if you notice the problem continuing feel free to post it here or send me a pvt. message.

I'd listen to the sign off myself, but I'm busy playing another Akon song.

;D ;D ;D

They were on all night Friday and Saturday. I caught them again at 5:45 on Sunday morning. Terrible propagation though, must have been on very low power.
