WQBC 1420 AM Vicksburg returns to the air

What is the format? Isn't that one of the oldest stations in Mississippi? We Quote Better Cotton, when they broadcast out of Utica?

Interesting indeed. I checked with someone I know in Vicksburg... they didn't hear it on the air yesterday.

I remember being told by the new owner that the original WQBC tower had been dismantled and that the land lease was long expired. That's quite a change of circumstances if he's (1) back on the air at all, and (2) under the exact same operating parameters of the WQBC license. Maybe someone from M.R.S. Ventures can chime in and explain it to me.

Should have got an extension of the STA,pull the old 2 poles spaced 170 ft apart ,wire in between trick.Would have given him some more time, perhaps. Not sure of the real story here, just saying...

I had a chance to tune it in a few days last week. It sounded good in my opinion. I found out about it by riding a bus. The driver had it on. I jumped in the car and it was booming in loud and proud.

Hmmm... what format were they playing?

Glad to see that WQBC is still around! I was an on-air personality with WQBC back in the early 1980s ... before I relocated to the Metro Washington DC area.

Hey all -

Speaking of "seeing that WQBC is still around," I took a drive over to Vicksburg the other day, and this is what I saw:

Hmm.... not only was WQBC not on the air, there was no tower there at all! I spoke with the lady who lives next door and she confirmed that the tower had been taken down a year ago. She also said that the man who owns the land there is developing it for other purposes (see the orange flags in the ground on the photos). As I said earlier... fascinating.

I'm late to this conversation, but wonder what kind of magic bus the earlier guy was referring to that was playing music from a phantom radio station.

What is David Copperfield up to? First the Statue of Liberty, next the WQBC tower! Is there no end to his ablilty to make things disappear? He's not playing the Vicksburg casinos, is he?

Very questionable! FCC file on this station shows a letter that indicates broadcasting resumed on March 11 but no STA for operation with modified facilities or parameters at variance.

I took down that tower a little over a year ago. Also, I have not heard anything but noise on 1420 since this thread started. I've made it a point to check several times a day. The tower was removed and the land sold.
