Wqbk/J memeories

This is good stuff. I remember Mike when he was doing nights on Rock 107 in Utica back in the '80s. I always liked the sound of that station.

When was the exact date of when WQBK gained the simulcast on 103.5? I'd assume this was shortly after Maximum Media acquired 103.5 and changed it to a simulcast of WQBK as "The Edge" :)

The callsign of 103.5 was changed from WSHQ to WQBJ on 7/1/94, so I would think that that was the date of simulcast. An interesting personal note on this. WSHQ was an adult contemporary. The company I worked for at the time had WSHQ on their Music on Hold on the telephone system. The telephone system was in the same room as the plant P.A. system which I took care of and had a key to the room. When 103.5 became WQBJ, the format included Howard Stern, so we ended up with him on the Music on Hold. Right away, management though someone with access to the room might have changed the station on the radio receiver, and I got questioned about it. When reality it was the format change. Needless to say, the radio got changed to another station immediately.

The call letter change to WQBJ and the simulcast of WQBK-FM began in mid-July, 1994. At that time it was a simulcast of Q-104 with the Classic Rock format that they were doing in those days. The format change to "The Edge" occurred in January, 1995...
