WQBN's singal

How far does WQBN's AM singal goes out into the gulf of mexico. I know thier singal is very weak but barly reaching north florida big bend area.... I did check the radio locator website but its back in 2009 of thier singal point to southwest then northwest.

Well, they do need to protect Cocoa Beach's 1300 to its east. I have a relative in Tampa, and hearing 1300 at night is no easy trick either!

WQBN was once a directional 5kw daytimer licensed to Tampa. In the late 70s, around 1979, what was then WSOL became WTYM with a COL change to Temple Terrace and the addition of night service with 1kw directional (1300 KHz; 5kw-D; 1kw-N; DA-2). WTMP 1150 also changed its COL to the same community around the same time when it added night service with 2.5 kw directional (1150 KHz; 5kw-D; 2.5kw-N; DA-2). I'm not sure I understand the reasoning behind WQBN later reducing its night power to its current 160 watts non-directional unless it may have been to eliminate one or more of its towers although its 5kw daytime service still utilizes a three tower directional antenna pattern, mainly to protect co-channel WMEL 1300 Cocoa Beach.

Are you near Panacea? We were there 2 weeks ago @ San Blas....US 98 sure is a lovely drive, and quiet....I hope that the storms were not too much for you all up there. (My relatives had to cancel a party at Live Oak because of the storms/outages.)

Many many Tampa/St Pete signals make it up the the Gulf Coast, no problem.
