WQCR "Superstation"

WQCR-AM 1500 in Alabaster is operating again tonight with a more than optimal signal (I guess that is what one should call it, lol). Ok...yeah, the station is licensed by the FCC to broadcast with 3 (yes, THREE) watts at night, but let's face it, with 3 watts, there shouldn't be any way way I should get a signal here in south Calera from WQCR...at all. I am receiving FULL signal bars on my radio as I do while listening to WQCR during the day, so my guess is they are using the full 2500 watts licensed daytime power at night. This is the usual for them every Sunday evening. The rest of the week (Mon - Sat), they are broadcasting a signal about as strong as on Sunday evenings, but with no audio.

Sheesh, if they're going to cheat at night they should at least not have dead air!

Funny you mention them doing this on Sunday nights. Last time I was in Birmingham (earlier this month) I noticed they were fairly well audible in Bessemer, even in my hotel room. Then again, it was a decent signal during the day, and I wouldn't think it'd be that clear that far north of Alabaster, either, so… now I'm wondering if they are not just cheating on night power on Sundays but day power too.
