WQHI "HI 95"

I've heard rumors that HI 95 might be coming back. Has anyone else heard that? I don't know how it could happen. Any thoughts?

Bill Walters could be putting it on a nearby AM frequency. Or maybe not.

Walters could purchase WGTK and call it "Hi 95" since it is two clicks higher than 95 AM.

I wonder if it will be 94.7 FM since WSYI-105.9 FM switched to a Christian Talk format earlier this week.

94.7 is owned by Salem Communications. Don't look for them to put on a 70s rock station. It's not what they do.

However they do rerun American Top 40 on 970. It's rather ironic to hear "Undercover Angel", "Calling Dr Love" and other songs that will corrupt your morality on a Salem owned radio station.

Maybe Salem is going to sell WFIA FM. It could then become WQHI HI 95 even though it's at 94.7. After all, when WQMF started at 95.7, they called themselves 96 'QMF and did so for years.

You're missing the point on the whole "Hi-95" thing. The station was called "Hi-95" because WQHI were the sequential call letters issued. The folks who signed it on the air were trying to use the existing calls and the name "Hi-95" worked since "HI" were in the calls and the dial position was higher than 95 but not quite 96, remember this was before digital read outs, hence "Hi-95". WQMF rounded up for a similar reason before digital read outs. But when digital readouts became the norm they began calling themselves 95.7, especially when 96.5 debuted.

Bottom line, "Hi-95" is a product of the past and there isn't an advantage to bring that back. Now if there was some kind of a "LMA/SMA/I am my own Grandpa arrangement" that would bring together 99.7 and 1080 then we could bring back "KJ-100" and the lateral replays.

WAKY was a product of the past and bringing it back has been very successful. :)

That is an exception to the rule, besides there is heart and soul into the effort plus they are on FM. If they tried that instead on 790 it would only be noticed by radio geeks.

Call me a radio geek, but I think the sound is quite good for an AM signal.

You know I've noticed the same thing. The radio in my car isn't wideband but better than average and 970 playing music sounds good compared to others on the AM band attempting the same thing. The audio is competitive but not squashed.
