I wanted to discuss Hot 97 for a bit. This is one of the stations I listen to all the time. What is your personal opinion on the station?

Also, Hot 97 has one of the most interesting playlists Ive ever seen in terms of number of spins they give each song. Does Hot 97 actually have a setup to their music playlist? Or do they just play their top songs at any given time? Sometimes, I see that the top song on Hot 97 has 140 spins a week, on other days, only 100 spins a week.

I'm not at all a listener of the station like I once was way back in the day before it was all hip-hop and I was in Junior High, but I am aware of what they play now by looking at their playlist on yes.com...not my thing, but I guess their a good station for the type of music they play...it seems they possibly could have bigger playlist and a bit more diverse, but then again same goes for NOW... that's a station I see making major progress if they would only finally wake up a bit with their music selection...

And people wonder why Hot 97 has not streamed for the longest time. People can put the same ten songs in their own iPods and shuffle them for hours on end.

HOT 97 is still one of the most popular Hip-Hop stations around. Just about Urban stations are playing the same top 5 songs in heavy rotation.

I am a pretty big Hot 97 fan, but I do think they were better in the past. They use to be a real true New York hip hop station, and while still are at times, seem to get a little too much of a southern focus at times. Granted that is where hip hop has gone over the last few years, but this is still New York, and they should get back more into that true NY sound.

They are still 10000000000x better than the LAME (with a capital L) Rhythmic we are stuck with here in Boston, Jam'n 94.5. Hot 97 is still light years ahead of that abomination. What is popular on Jam'n now was on Hot 97 6 months ago.

So True . That is why I now listen to Hot 87.7 ( Boston powerful Hip Hop and R&B Pirate station ).

Rhythmic? More like CHR, they are too afraid to lean urban and sound more like a Kiss 108 clone. In fact, last year they played Lady Gaga and Britney Spears! I prefer Hot 97 than that dump called Jam'n.

Its pretty amazing how you can go from an awful hip hop station with Jammin iN Boston, and take a ride into CT & get one of the best around with WZMX in Hartford.

Wasn't it just a few years ago that our own Hot 97 was playing Justin Timberlake songs?

Yep

Justin Timberlake
Leona Lewis
Baby Bash
Lady GaGa
One Republic

etc

Was a full Rhythmic for a few months.

A few Rhythmic tracks still pop in there every once in a while

True, though Timberlake did make a bit of a transition away from pop to r&b and even did a song with 50 Cent.

Timberlake went R&B with a song with Beyonce.

I wouldnt say Justin Timberlake would count in artists they play to "rhythmize" their playlist. He has charted several times on Mediabase Urban Airplay and the Billboard Hip-Hop & R&B charts.
