WQIK to keep ACC

WQIK is keeping the ACC with Kix Brooks. I think Gator should go after Bob Kingsley's new show and still keep Crook & Chase. What is everyones take.

I know nothing about any of those shows, since country ain't my thang, so forgive me for veering off in this direction...

For anyone who has been in the biz a while: I'd like to know if these syndicated countdown and specialty shows are normally carried for a boost to weekend listening, or long-term local sponsorship, or just filler that a board-op can run while the DJ's are hung over.

Maybe it depends on the station and format. House of Blues is promoted almost hourly on Kool. But the norm is to bury this stuff Sunday at 6am after the public affairs show and never say a word about it.

Just one of those things on my mind.

Flashback...back...back...

It does depend on the station...but...the syndicated weekend shows
serve many purposes, not the least of which is to keep the meters moving!
Good weekend talent is hard to find, especially with the spread of
voice tracking. There's no place to train anyone anymore...
BTW, I've been doing weekends since 1987 (15+ years at my current station),
and fill in for the morning show on their numerous vacations. My situation
is probably unique, but I'm taken care of quite nicely.<P ID="signature">______________

These shows used to be more of a listener weekend appointment event
(think of Casey Kasem and the countdown); but unless they have
real star-power (like when Crook and Chase USED to be a real draw), then maybe they add some reason to listen.

Doubt there is any local sponsor money, as weekends generally are "bonus time" on nearly all stations.

I have noticed the ACC has songs that WQIK doesn't play during the weekdays,
as their playlist is so conservative.

I hear songs on the national charts months before I ever hear them on WQIK (Toby Keith in 2005, Julie Roberts in 2004).

Hey there is good weekend talent out there and I'm one of em. Just waiting for a chance to get back on the air. Anyone in jax have an opening for live on air?
