WQIO 93.7

Noticed a couple of days ago a Facebook post from WQIO stating "PSST... THE BUNNY IS COMING" and that "Something fun is about to hop onto WQIO." Could we be looking at a format change in the near future? If so, I'm hoping for Hank to make a stop on those airwaves. The Maverick is fine, but doesn't get nearly deep enough for my taste.

Just saw your post.......... Here's what's on the website. They have been playing this contest for many years in some form or another......

" FIND THE BUNNY – KEYWORD GIVEAWAY!
🐰
🔥
The Bunny is on the move and this time… it’s bringing the gift EVERYONE wants—a $50 GAS CARD!
💨
Keep your ears locked on WQIO because those sneaky Bunny keywords could drop anytime, and everyone you catch gets you closer to filling up for FREE! Don’t miss a hop, don’t miss a keyword… …

I don't know if it makes sense to change formats on something that is likely working. Generally where there has been changes by Total Media - the stations they picked up had been struggling or where in need of a different format given the geographic/other stations in the area or just needed something fresh.

Mount Vernon is quite well served by WCLT and WNCO reaching that area. It might not make sense to flip to Hank there..

But hey anything is possible...but I don't think the Easter Bunny will be hopping in with a Hank in his basket. lol

I remember some 20 years ago when K-County, 98.3 and 107.7 was broadcasting out of Fredericktown, Ohio in Knox County. I believe these stations gave WCLT and WNCO a run for their money............ Matter of fact, WNCO bought K-County and had it for a couple of years before selling it to CLear Channel, now I-Heart.

Yep - 98.3 and 107.7 used to be a Country simulcast in the late 90's and early 2000s. Clear Channel picked them up (along with WNCO, WMAN, WYHT, WQIO etc.) around the same time and that was the end of the "K-Country" format as Clear Channel didn't want 98.3/107.7 competition with WNCO.

I want to say even though Clear Channel owned 93.7 WQIO for a while 98.3/107.7's programming originated out of Mansfield vs. Mount Vernon. so it was always treated as a "extension" of the Mansfield cluster.

But both WNCO and WCLT do have monster signals over mid Ohio and do well with the country format.

WNCO and WCLT do cover the area well, but not with classic country. WNCO never plays it and WCLT plays it occasionally. I think grouping newer country and classic country together is like mixing Jazz and Rap at this point. There is little common ground between the two. Hence, why I think Hank would work well here. A great signal in a rural area should be more successful than a variety station in the same area.

I get it - I guess in the meantime you can always stream Hank via the Total Media App or at Total Media :)

Yes the northern half of Ohio is a dead zone for classic country music. WQKT did a good job of mixing in classics from the 80's and 90's before it was sold. They also had the Country Classics show Tuesdays and Thursdays at 12:30 and The Picks And Bows Bluegrass Show on Sunday mornings.
I gave up hope that classic country will ever be heard on our air waves again, that's why I started Ashland County's Country-The Barn in early 2024.
Guess we're not the only ones who miss hearing it in the area, because I've been surprised by the support it's received.

I seem to recall that elsewhere when a classic country station popped up the reigning big shots started tweaking their formats and including more "classic" country mixed in with the current stuff. The new classic country station lasted less then a year IIRC
