WQIO Sold

I hope, 93.7 WQIO sounded a lot better when they where CHR, CC ruined them when they flipped it to Soft Rock. (AC)

Did a search on BAS Broadcasting, Which R&R lists as the folks that purchased them.

Their other stations are WFRO-FM Freemont Ohio 99.1 and WOHF 92.1 Bellevue. So it will be interesting to see what BAS does with the two stations.

WFRO and WOHF appear to run ABC satellite formats, so my best guess is WQIO and its AM station will go satellite...

How about an oldies station to take on Cruisin 100? Especially since CC is dumping or is rebranding oldies?

Clear Channel purposely sold WQIO to someone who would NOT directly compete with it's format cluster in North Central Ohio.

So, that would limit them to

AC what they have now,
Smooth Jazz,
modern rock,
what else?

They don't have many choices per say:
Clear Channel Ashland includes:
Classic rock
CHR/Mainstream
News/Talk
Country
Oldies
Hot AC

So your guess is good as mine if they do decide to change formats. Guess all we can do is listen to 93.7 and find out? :) Does ABC do any satellite AC formats? That might be a possiblity, ABC Satellite AC durning days and overnights and John Tesh at nights (which is currently on WQIO)

Possibly ABC's Hits and Favorites. That would cover that idea.

Go far enough SE of Columbus & you can hear it on 93.9. But I would suspect that QIO would stay with some kind of AC/CHR/Lite Rock permutation off hard drive. The Station has been some flavor of AC/CHR blend for years.

Well with the sale of of the stations, this will now allow Clear Channel to move WMRN from Marion to Dublin while keeping their share under the cap, and puts the petitions to deny the move from the "Committee for competitive Columbus radio" to moot!

What about jack format or jammin oldies?

My impression was that the coalition protesting CC's Dublin move were counting WLW towards the market cap, in arguiing that MRN will push the cluster over the market limit.

Under the new rules, it is the Arbitron makret area, not contour overlap, that deterines the size of the market, the number of stations that can be in a cluster, as well as the number of stations that count towards these cluster limits.

Knox county is not part of the metro, so unless QIO appeared in the Columbus book with a significant share the ownership of QIO would not count towards CC's market cap in the Columbus market. However, WLW does show, albeit with a .8 12+.

My vague memory, however, is that QIO's sale price is less than the purchase price? I wonder if ownership of QIO affects plans for some other market?

Also wonder if CC will hang on to the 98.3 in northern Knox county--Fredericktown I think the COL is. For a while, this station simulcast with the Loudonville station, don't know what it is doing now.

98.3 is still a simulcast with 107.7 Loudonville. They run a CHR "KISS" Format.
______________

I don't know why they didn't just put that on 93.7 and be done with it? Maybe too much overlap with their other CHRs?
______________

Aren't the "983 and 1077 KISS-FM" studios in Mount Vernon?
I'd bet that Clear Channel moves them up to Ashland or Mansfield now.

98.3/107.7 will be moving (if not already moved) to Ashland more than likely.

QIO leaned CHR at one point, then they went all Christmas then went AC (soft rock) their present format.
______________

I know the history quite well. I used to listen to "Open House Party" back in the 80s when they were CHR.
______________
