WQIO/WMVO and the Columbus/Mansfield Market

Okay-

Here is my spin on what is happening with WQIO/WMVO and the whole BAS thing.

BAS will take over the stations in mid September. BAS plans on keeping everything the same but dropping Mansfield out of their plan of attack. It will now be called WQIO FM Mount Vernon, Newark and Delawares 93Q. They are even going to have talent on the station. If I am not mistaken, I believe they want to drop John Tesh as per contract with Clear Channel. Imagine 93Q as a competitor to Sunny, not Lite. I am sure Clear Channel want's 93Q to help them in the conquest to take down Sunny.

Actually the whole reason Clear Channel even flipped 93Q to Soft Rock wasn't to go after WVNO. It was to go after Sunny from the elite NorthEast suburbs. Ala-Columbus Traffic on a station in Mount Vernon. Do you remember, Eric Matthews naming I-71 between 270 and Mt. Gilead after himself in the afternoons? Then WLZT popped up and CC was thinking about simulcasting the stations, but WQIO started targeting Mansfield and the heritage WVNO.

BAS want's to have their stations live 24/7, but it is taking them time to complete the process. They want to own 10-12 stations in rim-shot markets by 2012. Plus BAS is keeping a massive chunk of the current staff in Mount Vernon. Especially if they grab WNKO/WHTH like they want. There are plans to make changes in Sandusky too at BAS.

WWBK and WBZW will temporarily move to the Ashland Production Studio until they purchase a new building on 42 outside of Mansfield. Plus WWBK may have it's COL as Fredericktown, but it is just outside of Bellville.

I think they should drop Kiss like it's hot and push WYHT back into it's heritage Top 40. Then make KISS a Mainstream Rocker. I guess we will wait and see. Rumor has it WVNO has some changes on the way anyhow. In the county by county, Kiss was kicking some serious butt.

I really think this could make it one step closer for ASHLAND/RICHLAND/CRAWFORD to become a rated market. Plus Knox is part of the Columbus Market. FRANKLIN/DELAWARE/LICKING/KNOX/FAIRFIELD/PICKAWAY/UNION/MADISON are all part of the Columbus Market.

Knox county is NOT part of the Columbus metro as defined by Arbitron. The remaining seven are.
