WQMF is sounding great today!

The '90's are back, and they are playing songs I haven't heard on the radio in a while. Did they get a new PD or something? Hope they keep it up.

I've noticed some more 90's stuff on QMF as well. As far as I know, Charlie's still the PD. He's always working behind the scenes to try and get the best music focus for the format. Now if management will keep their nose out of it and let him do his thing...

Yeah they made another switch on May 11. I too was really excited that they were "adding" more songs, especially 90's. (strangely enough at 4:30 am they played Al Stewart's "year of the cat" for the first time in years)
But the excitement quickly went away when I noticed that even though they "added" several songs to their playlist, the removed even more.
I noticed more hair bands: Poison, Bon Jovi, Skid Row, Motley Crue
Added 90's grunge bands: Pearl Jam, Nirvana, STP, Metallica, some Soundgarden and Alice in Chains
Brought Back: Rod Stewart but only Maggie May
But they removed: all U2, REM, Elton John (again after a brief comeback due to the cocert), and limited most other groups to one or two songs. Nothing that resembles anything "deep."
Why can they not add songs without removing other songs? Common sense would suggest that the classic rock format should be continuing to add songs, but instead WQMF adds 5 and takes away 15. Pretty soon they will only be playing AC/DC and Pink Floyd over and over and over.
I have threatened to stop listening to WQMF for several years, but this is it. I have taken them off of all my radio presets.
Louisville is too small of a market to have two classic rock stations. WQMF has trailed WSFR for years. I would like to see them transition to a classic Rock hits format (60's- 90's). This seems to have worked in Indy. WFBQ's ratings have gone down the tube, thanks to WJJK. WJJK has beaten WFBQ for over a year now.

The last smart thing qmf did and it was not even clear channels idea was when clear channel took over from otting broadcasting and said they were gonna change the format and played a format an hour for 24 hours or so and it was quite entertaining. It was all a stunt and they stayed classic rock but i believe that was there last great idea. But i think all in all on balance clear channel knows what there doing but they really need to quit micomanaging so much and let the pd do there thing whatever that maybe. I remember they played country music for an hour and called themselves the buck.

I read months ago in san jose clear channel had an awesome alternatibve station 92.3 but what do they do they ruin it and add all this active rock which has no place on an alternative station! The suits need to stay away from the creative side!!!

The worst thing about clear channel now is that premium choice garbage that needs to be gotten rid of!!!

Thankfully the "suits" allowed QMF to get rid of Premium Choice.

Ancient Chinese Secret;

NO ONE can program a station as well as I can with my iPOD, iPHONE, itouch, iPad. As soon as PD's and GM's and (alleged) personalities realize this, the sooner they can prepare their resumes and find a new career with a future.

P.S.- My iPhone playlist sounds better than QMF's today :")

As I posted before I have quit listening to the station. But I still look at what they play on yes.com, and it makes me even more confused.
They have completely removed Bruce Springsteen. ????? A
"classic" rock station that doesn't play Springsteen!! I think a monkey could program that sation better.
They act like they want to become Hard Classic Rock Station, but one of their recent changes was to add "landslide" by Fleetwood Mac.
Other bands that have been removed or almost removed from the playlist:
The Police
U2
Clash
Talking Heads
CCR
Bob Dylan
Grateful Dead
Elton John
Peter Frampton
Bryan Adams

I am afraid that my favorite childhood station is ruined beyond repair.

It reminds me of when WLRS couldn't make up their mind of what they wanted to be after WQMF opened shop. I can't stand WQMF now.

I disagree with the naysayers on QMF...I think that the new playlist couple with the departure of Premium choice has made QMF, "hands down," much better than SFR. I have found myself listening to QMF more and more. I still think the playlist is too tight for every day listening though. The playlist is skewing younger and for Gen-x'r, that's a win!! Let SFR have all the old classic rock listeners.

It's too bad the Ville can't seem to support something more along the lines of sister station WEBN. I like my classic rock mixed with new rock.

Anyone else notice that SFR made some adds to their playlist. Not sure if that's ever happened before. Maybe they are trying to take advantage of WQMF's hard rock playlist debacle. I hope SFR stomps WQMF's a$$ in the next ratings.
I've notice they added:
Huey Lewis and the News: QMF hasn't played them regularly since the 80's
Blondie: (Wqmf dropped blondie when they started "real" classic rock)
U2: Wqmf dropped them when they added the 90's to their playlist, make no sense to me either
I am sure there are a couple more, but any adds are big for WSFR.

WQMF's hard rock playlist debacle :) The spring book and the constant rise in numbers since the addition beg to differ.

I like the adds, just hate that bands and songs were removed. Unless the playlist keeps expanding, the short term jump in ratings won't last.

After Bob and Tom, I change to my IPOD as soon as I hear a Pink Floyd or AC/DC song. Usually I only listen for 10-20 minutes.

every station must grow and refocus to stay alive. It's QMF's time and this is the right direction. We just added a bunch a cuts just a few weeks back and yes there will be more. We're always looking, watching and asking especially via facebook. Those are passionate P1's. I can tell from most of your posts we're just not going to make you happy and that's fine. We're not out to make everyone happy..just the most people. It'll always be a work in progess as it should be.

Yes, i totally agree, it is impossible to make any one person happy all the time in radio. I have no complaint against the adds. Actually I love the idea and would like to see more ( More RHCP, Lenny Kravitz, Green Day, Collective Soul, just to mention a few, would all fit nicely in the altered format).
My biggest complaint are the bands that never get played anymore. Like Bruce Springsteen. I'm a not a big fan, but a classic rock station without the Boss?? I really miss (and this is the main reason I rarely listen)is U2. I understand some of their music can be polarizing , but "new years day", "pride," anything from joshua tree and actung baby, would fit.

I remember the good old days when QMF would brag about the rock n roll library and play it from A to Z during memorial day. A day in the life to Ziggy Stardust. Now, neither get played.

.

"New Year's Day" moved over to the Fox. I heard it last Friday; but I also heard No Doubt's "Just a Girl" as well.

Good work 'QMF. Been listening a lot more lately.

TFX still plays Pearl Jam, Soundgarden, Nirvana, Alice IC, Metallica, and RHCP. There is no reason they cannot both play U2.
