WQMS-AM for sale on Craigslist

WQMS-AM, Quitman, MS is for sale on Craigslist. I've seen a few for sale on Ebay, but I think this is the first radio station I've seen on Craigslist.

Oh wow. Got a link? I can't find it.

Funny enough, if I remember it, wasn't this station actually on eBay a couple of years back?

Jonathan,

Look on the Memphis board for a thread called "Found a Station." I believe there
is a link and more info there.

Jason Konarz can NOT sell that station as a Licensed Station. I checked the CDBS database, and I also call my FCC Attorney who checked with the commission and that station has had it's licensed canneled! If WQMS is on the air, it's not supposed to be PERIOD!

*Now, if any of you know Jason, I willing to buy his Armstrong Transmitter, Tower, ATU, and in other gear. He knows where to find me.

That station's licensed has been canceled and that's the offical word my FCC Attorney got from somebody in the AM branch of the FCC. Nobody can put it back on the air if they buy the real estate, building, and assets! It is no longer a FCC licensed facility. You can NOT get the license back, when an AM station goes dark or its license has been canceled by the FCC!

Get this.......
As of the afternoon of November the 7th, 2009 (last Saturday); it was *STILL* on-the-air!

I think there is some confusion here. WQMS-AM in Quitman was on Craigslist. WQMA-AM in Marks is the one that Jason Konarz was involved with.

I just saw WQMS listed for sale on a brokerage site for $59,000 yesterday. It appears some people have WQMS and WQMA mixed up.

That is correct. I was thinking of the Marks 1520, my bad. Hell! the only exercize I get now days is jumping too conclusions...

Watt,
I don't know if you have looked at the CDBS database, but Jason filed a STA back in 2007. According to the database, the license has been canceled and call letters deleted. I think that someone needs to contact Eric Rice in Atlanta, and get that station shut down. He is not following the law, and now is a pirate broadcaster.

It's not right for the rest of us to follow the rules, and Jason won't! Larry Fuss told me this would happen.

WQMS is legal and has a license to broadcast. I know the owner of WQMS, Ira Littman. Ira is a great guy! It WQMA that is NOt suppose to be on the air anymore. Let me get my brain and calls straight!

Watt: Wern't you based in Starkville at one time? Perhaps you can shed a light on the Market and potential you see in the WQMS market?

I live in Stonewall (next town over from Quitman) and I can shed some light on it for you. Truly, non-existant. Quitman is a very sleepy town where not much happens. Businesses come and go almost on a whim so selling advertising would be difficult if not impossible, especially after the "new" wears off the station. The economy was very badly damaged when Burlington Industries close their plant in Stonewall many years ago (unemployment rate is still unreal). Unless you not in it to get rich and maybe break even, go for it. Don't expect to get rich here because it's not going to happen, especially on a 1,000 watt daytimer in the middle of no where.

Oh, and don't forget that you have station penetration from Meridian AND Hattiesburg so there is LOTS of competition.

JBI: Yes, I attended that fine institution of marginal higher learning there in Starkville. Was born and raised in the nearby thriving and vibrant metropolis of Crawford. All I know about Quitman is that it’s on the road between Meridian and Laurel.

As far as the station there is concerned and FWIW, let me put it like this; if someone were to offer pay me $59,000.00 in cash to take it over, with no transfer cost, fees, conditions or any liabilities what-so-ever; I *might* accept that and then immediately return the license to the FCC. There again, Might!

LOL!
Best regards.
