I noticed the other day that WQMX 94.9 and WNWV 107.3 both have their HD signals on but no sub channels.
It can be if the signal doesn't reach the receiver well which is usually a car. I don't know why it's being done but Rubber City had put WONE on HD a long time ago so maybe they have some data to support adding more HD stations. Is this a bad thing? HD Radio primarily exists as a program source for low-power translators, having repeatedly flopped in the marketplace. What would RCRG have to gain by running obscure formats on subchannels no one will ever listen to, let alone be aware it even exists?
Yes, smooth jazz or some type of format like WKHR such as a standards format but highly unlikely. And maybe smooth jazz and on another.
RCRG doesn't strike me as the type of operator willing to sacrifice money on niche HD subchannel formats no one is going to listen to.It can be if the signal doesn't reach the receiver well which is usually a car. I don't know why it's being done but Rubber City had put WONE on HD a long time ago so maybe they have some data to support adding more HD stations.
The sad truth is that the audience for 93.5, despite being a low-power translator, would top the audience for a 94.9 subchannel (which can only be accessed by something the marketplace has continually rejected) by an order of magnitude. The economics simply do not exist. They should put a simulcast of WAKR on one of them, particularly WQMX as WNWV is very multipathy out my way. Hopefully that would help improve coverage beyond their 93.5 FM repeater.
