100000watts.com is reporting that Radio One will be flipping Urban AC Q92.7 WQNC/Harrisburg-Charlotte to Talk beginning Thursday, May 15th. The WQNC website (www.q927fm.com) is announcing the addition of Warren Ballentine and Rev. Al Sharpton and a slogan change to "The People's Station". It appears they will still be using the Q92.7 name.

It looks like they'll play R&B on nights and weekends, but talk during the day. I wonder how Al will do against Rush :D . I surprised WGIV didn't jump on this earlier, but I guess Radio One is trying it on their own stations.

Q92.7 in Charlotte will have a similar weekday syndicated lineup to Radio One's 102.5 GROWN FOLKS RADIO here in Atlanta.

Atlanta
6a-10a: Steve Harvey Morning Show (syndicated talk; some music)
10a-1p: Warren Ballentine (syndicated talk)
1p-3p: Al Sharpton (syndicated talk)
3p-7p: Michael Baisden (syndicated talk; some music)
7p-12a: Si Man (Local;SlowJamz)

102.5 here in ATL has actually been on the rise in ratings with the current lineup with such a weak signal. I don't think Radio One will replace Michael Baisden here for Mo'Nique afternoon show though.

Sorry to hear this. Q92.7 had its problems, but V101.9 really does need direct competition--it's not the greatest station, IMO. Besides, in a market not overloaded with FM signals, I hate to see a FM station wasted on talk. BTW, WGIV DID have Al Sharpton previous to QNC taking it....

Well, then, how would you explain 107.9?

It's pretty difficult to explain 107.9 The Link. Ratings on a par with WQNC (in its former format) despite its much, much more powerful signal. Yet, The Link has among the highest billing in the market--which shows demos really do count. My personal opinion is that Link is a wasted FM station, but obviously they make money, so more power to them. Radio One has had results with their WAMJ in Atlanta and Iwisdh them the same in Charlotte.

People who don't like The Link just don't "get" what The Link is. Ironically, it's usually the same people who rant and rave that nothing is local and nobody tries anything new and different.

Go figure.

This is just an urban version of The Link. I wish them well.

As if anyone cares about WQNC - another Radio One loss
No need for that kind of negative attitude. WQNC deserves the same respect as other Charlotte broadcasters. Previous owners of the station also have had trouble getting the station to fly---it is a class A station in a sea of class Cs. R-1 has had good results with their other class A in Charlotte (WPZS) and that station sounds good.

Q92.7 carries Tom Joyner in the morning followed by Ballentine and Sharpton. It's jockless from 4 - 6pm. Mixes from 6 - 7 before the slow jam show.

Also, GIV did carry Sharpton's show for an hour (1 - 2) but it was pretty messy in that the sometimes all of Sharpton's segments weren't carried. Music was played instead. I also think they were carrying the feed from WVON in Chicago because at the end of the one o'clock hour you could hear the WVON ID.
