WQQQ "Q103" The Final Shows

This morning at around 5:30 AM, WQQQ did their last morning show with Joe Loverro and Marie Castagna where they brought you news and weather to start the day along with some great mix of music as well. Plus they brought in special guests including the management team of the station where they gave their final goodbyes along with the callers to wish them good luck. This was more than 6 hours of nothing but throwing in for a farewell party to the radio station. They will be back on Monday to give you their last farewell to this radio station until the station will be changing formats to NPR and the station will be the ownership of WSHU's Public Radio.

Tonight Joe Loverro will be doing his last "Friday Night Gold" show with nothing but the 50's and 60's as well as doo-wops. I will record it later tonight.

I put these airchecks in 6 parts to share with you the last days of WQQQ's "Q103" from this morning beginning with the last morning show. Enjoy!

And here is an aircheck of the last "Friday Night Gold" on "Q-103" with Joe Loverro where plays your favorite oldies from the 50's and 60's, along with special guests coming into the studio. This show will be as sad as Rick McCaffery's "Solid Gold Jukebox" ended like they did on the old WBPM's "Cool 92.9" back in January 2007. Thank goodness for WKNY's Saturday afternoon oldies show with Warren Lawrence, but I still have an aircheck of Saturday's oldies show on WKNY, but I will post it soon. Here it is, enjoy the last oldies show on WQQQ's "Q-103" in 5 parts.

NOTE: You might hear interference from another station in Albany which is WGY-FM at 103.1, but the quality was not that great, but it's okay for this aircheck, so here we go.

And that's it for now. Tomorrow, Bob Chatfield will be doing his last show playing smooth jazz from 9 AM until noon. I hope we're going to miss smooth jazz, WQCD's former "CD 101.9" flipped to rock as WRXP did, and the ratings are down at the bottom of the barrel. We shall see tomorrow. And then from 6 PM until 9 PM, they will be doing their last show called "Those Wonderful Years" featuring all of their great standards and big band music, just like the way WNEW-AM and WQEW, the two stations in New York City did since they had standards until they gave up the format back in the 1990's. And last but not least, from 10 PM until midnight, will do his last show called "Adventures in Anime Music" , but I'm not big fan of Anime music, so will find out tomorrow night.

All this and more will be on they're last show on WQQQ's "Q-103" starting tomorrow. And then on Monday morning, I will be recording the official sign-off of WQQQ's "Q-103" with a very special expanding morning show from 5:30 AM until 10:00 AM. And after this is done, it will become NPR. I hope I will look forward to that. So stay tuned.

This is great, disney fanatic - thank you very much! Where did you record this? Since WHRL/WGY-FM modified in 2009, they've gained strength in the HV.

Dennis

Here is and aircheck of Bob Chatfield where he did his final Sunday morning show on WQQQ's "Q-103" as heard this morning. You might hear the first half hour of music right before Bob comes in late.

This show will be playing smooth jazz just like the way they used to be heard on WQCD's "CD 101.9" right before the format flipped to WRXP back in 2008. A lot of fans who had missed smooth jazz on New York City radiowaves for two years, but here is your last chance to hear Bob Chatfield for his last show.

As I said, the audio is not all that great, but it is kinda jumbled and you might hear some WGY-FM playing in the background. It sounds okay, but not all that great due to adjacent channels. I hope you will enjoy Bob Chatfield where he did his last smooth jazz show on "Q-103" as heard this morning.

Coming up later tonight, I will be recording the final show called "Those Wonderful Years" where they're playing nothings but great standards and big band music one last time. I hope fans who missed the old WNEW-AM and WQEW back in the 1990's would love to check this out. It is on tonight. I'm going to record it later, and after this, I'm going to post the last "Those Wonderful Years" show by maybe tomorrow.

Since I haven't posted since yesterday, because I was a little bit busy recording the last day of "Q-103" when I got home from my job, but here is the aircheck of the last Sunday night show on WQQQ's "Q-103" called "Those Wonderful Years" with Scott Miller. There is no final goodbyes or final words on the last day, just automated music. It features some great standards like Tony Bennett, Frank Sinatra, Johnny Mathis and many others.

For those of you have missed the two stations in New York City such as WNEW-AM and WQEW back in the 1990's as well as other "Music Of Your Life" affiliates, I hope this aircheck will play 4 hours of great standards. The 8:00 PM show plays nothing but Frank Sinatra, wow! You should love it! And finally, the show ended with no comments on his final show and no goodbyes to the station, only play the last song called "The Gypsy" by the Ink Spots that brought this show to an end. Enjoy the last day of "Those Wonderful Years".

Later on, I will post the last show called "Adventures In Anime".

And here is an aircheck of "Adventures in Anime Music", and this was their last show on WQQQ's "Q-103". Mark Weiss was the show for this 2-hour show playing nothing but anime music. I'm not a big fan of Anime music in general, so I will give it a try. At the end of the show, there was mentioning about next week's show, but there is never going to be a next week's show. So this is his final show on "Q-103". Enjoy!

And finally, the moment we've all been waiting for, the last day of WQQQ's ""Q-103" from yesterday morning. I recorded the last day for the station at around 5:30 AM with just automated music. There is no news at the top of the hour during the last day except the weather forecast. This final show was hosted by Joe & Marie in which they brought in special guests including George Lombardi, Gillian Anderson and Dennis Jackson where they are talking about the station and a lists of shows that are going to appear on 103.3 as now of WSHU's Public Radio group in Fairfield, CT. And also talks about the changes made on WQQQ. And at the very end of the show, the station will become NPR at 10 AM yesterday morning with the launch of WSHU Public Radio. What a way to end WQQQ after 18 years since WQQQ started the AC format back in 1993 until this year when WQQQ's "Q-103" left the airwaves to become NPR. It was owned by Ridgefield Communications, the company that owns WRIP's "Rip 97.9" up in the Catskill Mountains, but it still carries the AC format.

WQQQ's "Q-103" will never be the same again. But the music lives on online where they are carrying WQQQ's "Q-103" via streaming. I hope you should check this out!

These two final broadcasts are actually links to Part III and IV of Those Amazing Years. Can you correct these two links?
