I don't think this is exactly recent news, but with the visit I made to Saint Louis last weekend it was news to me.
Nice to see 1490 AM back playing r and oldies and blues most of the time. This is of course the frequency of the legendary WESL-AM, which new owners switched to sports talk a few years ago, they then switched to Black Sports Talk for a while and now back to a primarily music format similar to the old WESL. It seems to me maybe a year ago, I noticed that they had an oldies format that skewed but was not entire r and b. Now they are pretty much all the way there. I am not sure why they don't just go all the way and take it back to WESL or are those call letters taken now?
This station does have quirky owners, Insane Broadcasting which also owns Oldies 1430 and Classic Country 1190 in the St. Louis market. There are some talk shows in certain dayparts that don't really fit the format but most of the time it is back to being an r and b music station.
