WQRF-TV/Rockford adds newscast

Saw this on the WTVO Web site a couple weeks ago, but didn't see any mention of it here yet:

Now that 17 WTVO and 39 WQRF are under the same roof, a 9pm nightly newscast is being added to Fox 39 starting March 6. Alan Jones, who moved to WTVO when his contract was not renewed by 23 WIFR after 15 years, will be anchoring. As the site says, it will be the market's only over-the-air news at 9pm; currently, WREX produces a 9pm newscast for its cable WB station, WBR 14.

What you forgot to mention is that we have a year lead on them too!

Yeah, I suppose I could have mentioned that, but I wasn't quite sure how long the WBR newscast had been running.

My parents live in an area where the nearby towns are served by Insight cable, but they are too far from town to get the service themselves, so I have not actually seen WBR when I have been out in the area. Is the WBR 9pm news live or taped? How similar is it to the WREX 6pm or 10pm news?

It's live. In fact, I'm the one directing it tonight.

How similar is it to WREX's news? It's not.. It's a more faster paced newscast with a single anchor and it's aimed younger than WREX's news. The set is the former WREX Sports Center (if you're familiar with the REX newscasts), just with a plasma monitor behind the anchor.

Btw.. Are you in viewing range of WREX-DT? We put WB14 News @ 9 on 13.2 (normally the Live Power Doppler feed) @ 9pm.

Yeah, I'm familiar with the WREX newscasts, so I can picture it.

My parents are, I'm not... but I bet I'll have HD at home before they will. I'll check it out at some point.
