WQTL 106.1 singal Tallahassee

I didnt know that 106.1 The Path Tallahassee dropped thier FM singal from 6,000 watts to 2,250 watts no wonder its gotten weaker and weaker.

Why did they went to 6,000 watts to 2,250 watts?

They were 6,000 watts before when they used to be Q-106.1 Oldies before they flip to The Path.

The change probably occurred when they moved from a tower on Woodville Highway to Oleson Road. Note that they have a higher height (165 meters), above the allowed class A height of 100 meters, thus the power drop was needed. Also I think the move short-spaced WQTL to the 106.3 in Boston, Ga.

Is it b/c that 106.3 in Boston Ga trying to reach the singal to Tallahassee since 93.3 drop bluegrass and folks music to newstalk Freedom 93.3.

WTUF is completely locked into their current location. That station couldn't do a thing to improve coverage of the Tallahassee metro. WGMK to the west and WQTL to the south...

WQTL and WTUF are pretty much locked into their locations because they are first adjacent channels to each other. I believe dbright is correct that they are short spaced.

WQTL probably owns the tower on Oleson vs. having to lease the one on Woodville Highway. WQTL's transmitter used to be located in what was basically an empty septic tank so maybe this is an improvement in that regard.

You also have co-channel WLVO Live Oak to consider in order to avoid any potential short-spacing conflicts.

What a mess I will said. So how is The Path doing? are they doing better or about the same? I talking about will the Path stick alittle bit longer? I will said maybe not since Tallahassee's 106.1 flip many times....

You know what would be really nice is we need a Adult Standards/MOR music like WPAX-AM 1240 Thomasville. on 106.1

I know WFCT 105.5 in Apalachicola plays Adult Standards/MOR can reach Tallahassee but thanks for WFRF 105.7 came to Tallahassee that chew up the singal.

I would said Adult Standards/MOR will work on 106.1 maybe give it a shot?

As a AAA, the Path was running around a 1 share in the most recent ratings. That poor station has flipped so many times it thinks it is part of a gymnastics team..

Which I think is part of its problem. It has changed so much no one knows, or cares, what it is. They really need to pick a format and give it all they've got for at least a year. The Path is right at a year old now.

The Sunday morning jazz program with Tim Donovan has been well received. Adult standards/soft AC is a big format hole in the market. It might not get the sales numbers they need but it would get listeners.

When this station was first in the works, I was one of 13 applicants trying to get it. I made it to the final 3 but was not funded well enough to afford the comparative hearings required in the late '80s. It was one of those docket 80-90 Class A stations that came into the market late. It will likely always be the underdog station of that cluster.

Yes, we moved WQTL to the studio to eliminate high tower rent, but at the same time, we gained a lot of height which has helped with city coverage in Tallahassee. In order to move it to the studio, we had to put up a directional antenna to protect WTUF...so, the null is to the north. While we probably lost coverage outside of Tallahassee, we made a huge improvement to the coverage in town. I really like the current format, and they are broadcasting live Friday nights from The Mockingbird Cafe, and Saturday nights from the Bradfordville Blues Club. Also, Tim's Sunday show is excellent. It's nice to see the ownership thinking outside the box and doing something different in this market.

So how long this podject thing will last utill its all done to get 106.1 The Path back on full power? Im from Crawfordville area.

The project was done almost 2 year ago. I'm sitting at the studio right now looking at the transmitter, it is at full power. Propagation has been a little weird the past few days with the cooler weather...maybe that's hurting your reception. Honestly, I wouldn't expect the signal to be that great in Crawfordville, the point was to make it as strong as possible in Tallahassee and not worry so much about the outlying areas. Keep in mind we have 106.3 in Boston, GA, 106.3 in Donalsonville, GA, 106.1 in Live Oak, FL, and 106.1 in Sylvester, GA basically all competing for the same air space...makes it tough for any of these stations to have much coverage outside of their city grade. This link will show you the predicted city grade for WQTL:

https://maps.google.com/?q=http://t...our=60&city=TALLAHASSEE&state=FL.kml&t=m&z=11

Judging by this map, I would not expect the station to have much usable coverage in Crawfordville.
